Looking great! A little off topic but what technique did you use for making the eyeballs. I am on the lookout for a good tutorial. I don’t like the eyes I got
HMC #20 - Expressions - Hugh Laurie
@BertieRooster: hey i’d really appreciate some of the reference…i’ll pm you my email later
@shin4: thanks
@waterlilly: i used the following 2 tutroials to get my eyes…i didn’t do it all exactly like it says, and i changed a few things later on…but if you follow these you should get a nice result…

Thanks so much, I am eternally thankful :bowdown:Jensen will have eyes soon thanks to u.
did a lot of tweaking this morning…just got to finish off the lower neck collarbone area…then i might unwrap it and take it into mudbox and see how that goes…

Very good likeness. And nice to see you back at work on this
I assume you will be doing something with those nGons at the top of the head? or does Mudbox support them?

did a little bit more tweaking and whacked a quick shirt on him…strangely i think it helps with the likeness…lol…

little bit more tweaking around the mouth…and a different angle…i feel like i’ve just about nailed it on this one
EDIT: added a jacket as well…not so happy with it but it will do for now…

just been playing around with hair and it turns out it helps to read the manual…lol…i’d always struggled with getting hair in the right place at the right length and things like that…
turns out i’d been struggling with setting and styling when i could have just been using maps instead…
here’s a quick test with a map for density and cut length…obviously the hair style ain’t right but i haven’t even touched that bit yet…

hopefully this will mean i’ll be able to get real good control over his beard/stubble, which was one area i was quite worried about…
@BrettSinclair: thanks, that means a lot especially considering the caliber of work you put out…
alrighty, i’ve finally jumped back into mudbox…first time in about a year…lol…possibly more…and i’d forgotten how fun it was…anyway i’ve got a little bit of sculpting done…

i was tempted to do symettry so as to cut down on sculpting time but decided against it, so i’m scilpting one side at a time. that way each side will be unique…
i also think i’m going to leave pore detail and stuff as a bump map and just do wrinkles/viens as a displacement…
okay here’s a first pass on the sculpting and i must say i’m quite pleased with it…although i’m having some problems which i’ll get to in a minute…

now the problem i’m having is getting the displacement maps out of mudbox…i had to export the hi res mesh to get the above render…
as far as a i know i have it set up right, its the same settings i’ve used previously and they worked then…but for some reason now when i go to create the map it goes through a few steps and comes up “cannot open temporary displacement map test_d.tif”
don’t really know whats going on though as i’ve never been that great at the whole displacement map business…
anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing that? i’m using mudbox 1.0.4
okay i think i solved my displacement map problems…
turns out there was a tiny bit of my original UV’s outside the UV space and that was throwing up the error…
i’ve fixed it up now and can generate a displacement map…now i’ve just gotta tweak the settings…and then learn how to render with them…lol
EDIT: had to post this just cos its quite amusing…ol’ hughs had a bit of an allergic reaction to displacement…

Emotion 2: Confused…he looks a little sad…but i’m guessing house would be sad if he was confused…

Yeah I can see likeness!
There is definitely Dr. House in the model.
But compared to a photograph I think the actual model is a bit too skinny. Maybe this impression is created by the eyes which look a way too big.
Oh by the way the eye-balls look beautiful. How did you get 'em to this level of realism?
Some lovely modelling. It’s also really nice to see in your last post that others go through the phase I’m going through at the moment: It looks like a face but not.
Ah well more practice needed for me, but thanx for showing your older work as well as your current work, it gives me more hope for my own projects.
Another 3ds max user! Happy to see this thread. It proves just what you can pull off with 3ds max (Although, it goes without saying, it’s not the program, it’s the artist
Wow, this is starting too look really good. Definitively going to keep watching this progress. Hugh Laurie is a really cool choice as well.
Agree with the face being a bit slim maby, also theres something with his worn face that makes him difficult, but looking forward too seeing the progress! Difficult too make someone look tired/handsome at the same time.

well its looking like even with the extension i won’t be able to get all the expressions done…
but at least i have 2 celebrity heads done that will contribute to a big project i have coming up later this year…think movie casting…and i’m continuing my push towards that project by entering myself in the current CG challenge Secret Agent!
It’s been a while since i’ve entered one and I’ve never managed to finish one so now’s the time.
I’m reinventing and Inspector Gadget type agent, with Robert Downey Jr and the GT by Citroen starring as the Inspector and Gadgetmobile respectively…

You’ll find the link to my entry in my sig…
Had I ever saw you in cg chalanges? yes much times.Had you ever finnished them? No.Oh I remember…the DBZ was only one. Im just kinding
good work on house
