HMC #20 - Expressions - Craig Horner

#1

So here we go 2nd challenge for me. I have never tried to do a realistic human face so thought I would go ahead and try.

!CRITICS MUCH APRECIATED AND VERY WELCOME!

I will be modeling Craig Horner. The actor from the show The Legend of the Seeker, (for those who have never heard of this show it is out of Australia and fairly campy but kind of a fun fantasy show.) He plays the main character of Richard aka the Seeker.

What I want from this is to…
Get a accurate likeness of the Actor.
Have a clean workflow.
Nail the expressions.
Work on my time managment compared to the #19
Have yet another really go reason to save up for zbrush or mudbox. (I have played with zbrush a bit but not the other)

Here is some of the ref. Most pics are from The Legend of the Seeker, a few are from something called Blue Water High and there are a couple of Publicity shots in there.

He has some good expressions and he’s young so I thought he would be slightly easier to model.

I’ve no idea who he is, not for the first time on this thread. Am I completely out of touch with pop culture? Whoever he is, he sure is purdy…

Not sure about the young -> easier connection. I find the older they get it’s easier because you get more and more landmarks around the face to help you judge shape and proportion.

Doesn’t really matter either way. Good luck with it!

Hey,

First your not out of anything in here in MN this show plays at 11pm on Sundays! I just randomly stumbled across him. And yes he is very very purdy!!

Any who I guess the younger is easier came from the idea there would be less to model as far as wrinkles and such. But the landmarks your talking about bring up a good point.

Oh well we will see how this goes.

Here is a quick wip just started laying out basic shapes. Any hints on topology would be great!

Yuuuuuup… What Lord said :wise:… and I am feeling the burn right now. I found Lance Henriksen sooo much easier than the my current entry for HMC 20. The young ones have such smooth, elastic faces that they’re hard to nail down. Sometimes I have to look for photos with harsh lighting to help outline the facial features. Hopefully you’ll have an easier time with it than I am.

Good luck with your entry! :wavey:

PS- I love the ab pictures. I might be married, but goddamnit, I ain’t dead…
