HMC #13 Louvre: Nike of Samothrace

Hi everyone, this is the first time entry. I’m going to do the Winged Victory of Samothrace

It’s a no brainer for me to pick this statue since it has always been one of my holy grail of fine art.
I hope I can finish it on time :slight_smile:

Just started to do some blocking for the base mesh in maya.
Hoping to have more time after this week to work on it more

Finally took the base mesh into zbrush. Here is the first pass on it:

It has been about 9.5 hours on this model so far, worked on the wings a little bit, and trying to work on the legs and the folds around it, seems to be a little challenging.

Spent another few hours on retopology, since I didn’t have enough geometry on the bottom half.

And another few hours fixing the posture

Did a little changes on the wings to match the real sculpture a little closer, then, it took me a good afternoon to do some R&D trying to find a way to render this model.
I tried exporting back to maya, but I couldn’t figure out a good setting to export normal/displacement map. And when I tried exporting the hi-res model into maya, crashed infinite times…:banghead:
After few hours struggling, searching online and with some tips from my classmates, I figured out the render settings in ZBrush, up the document to double size, view as half-size anti-alias, and finally make a render to look nice from ZBrush itself.

I wasn’t sure if I was even going to pull it off when I picked it… only second time I’ve a complete character done with ZBrush. I’m so glad at when it is at least recognizable ^^

After many hours struggling with rendering, here are my final renders and I’ve also compiled some WIP images more neatly.

I’ve put all the images here, not sure if I’m suppose to put everything in this thread or not, so I’m just putting a few here for now.
