Some more for today

#13

Good work. Keep it out!

#14

Workin on sections at a time, still quite abit to do but its gettin there…

#15

The sculpt is looking very good so far!

You may want to pull the sides of the mouth inward a bit more. In the reference photos it looks thinner there where the mouth stretches.

#16

Your right its lookin abit too wide at the moment thanks for the suggestion! Think what i may have to do is open the mouth wider and then bring the sides of the mouth in abit more.

#17

Coming along nice dude, I reckon modelling in a bit of clear saliva flying out the final model would look quite cool…

#18

Still need to work on the legs and toes and then ill prob start adding more detail at a higher level or maybe i should pose it first. The inside of the mouth shall be interesting…

James adding saliva will be a kool idea for the final renders

C&Cs welcome

This is going to be great! Very good work so far. Nicely spotted by KrakenCMT too (the thing about the width of the mouth). That made it much better even. Looking forward to seeing the main body beeing sculpted. It looks very smooth and clean now. I suppose the symmetrical pose adds to the “cleanlyness”, but still it would be cool to see some more fine level wrinkles around the neck, armpits and some bulges on the chest/belly.
Keep us posted.

Ok not really a major update, havent had time to work on this lately but hopefully I can finish the model for the deadline. Been doing the UVs and now I think im at the stage where I can start detailing the model with finer skin wrinkles and bumps. Oh yeh the legs still need some work aswell. Ill put together some sort of pose after although I dont think it will be a very dynamic one lol. I should have another update tomorrow of the detailing.

#22

Started the detail process, I must say its a bit of a rush job since deadline is looming! Wanted to detail on one level higher but my comp cant seem to handle it and it would take forever for me to get it all done. Detail wont hold up on close ups but should be ok for full body shots. Not sure if im even goin to have time to rig it… detailing is taking longer than expected.

#23

Havent finished detailing just yet but I wanted to test the displacement. As pixelranger said the main body is looking very clean at the moment. So i think i will try to add some roughness with some fine detailing in that area as well as the legs.

#24

The interior of the mouth looks especially nice. Great job!
How about making those “sleeves” on the legs a bit more droopy?!

#25

Thanks razorsedge the sleeves looked abit wierd as they were so ive changed it abit now. Going to try to a quick rig and pose the hippo and then start doing some renders.

#26

Final posed image ready to be submitted! Now I just need to get the orthographics together.

Thanks for all the C&Cs. This challenge was fun

#27

Nice hippo. I love that menacing mouth.

#28

Great finish on the hippo! I actually like the 4th to the last render best where you get to see his face a bit more. You really did a nice job with it!

#29

Thanks Quardart and KrakenCMT I really love your pieces! Lol my sis said she didnt really like the final render cos you cant see his face properly, I see what she means.
