Hitman - Ink

#1

Heres another Ink image I did for my portfolio.
Sketched on paper then inked in photoshop.

C&C Welcome.

It’s a pretty good job you did with this picture. I probably wouldn’t have attempted it, but I hope you don’t mind a few critiques. First, his shoulders are at different levels and look very rounded. For him to look intimidating as a hitman I’d expect his shoulders to be higher and squared, taking up as much space as possible. Also, his left elbow never comes to a point but rather curves around in an arc. Nice detail on the guns.

As for the shadows, I think they’re much too heavy on his face as his jacket appears bathed in white. Given the shadows, I like the ones on the left side (his left) of his face – they nicely shape his cheekbone and put wrinkles below his eyes. His right side looks like it wasn’t planned out as thoroughly.

Lastly, I think you’d get a more interesting feel from this picture if the background were black instead of white. That way instead of drawing the figure and coloring in solid black you are imagining a figure in the dark, shining a light on him and trying to figure out what parts of him are lit up. I realize it would invite comparisons to Frank Miller’s “Sin City” but you couldn’t ask for a better source of inspiration.

BTW, you mention that you’re building up your portfolio. Is it for art school? I only ask because you seem to be focusing exclusively on black & whites right now. Two different b&w comics(both employ crosshatching, though) I highly recommend are Stan Sakai’s “Usagi Yojimbo” and Dave Sim’s “Cerebus” just to give you a few different ideas. Good luck and keep posting!

hmmm, i really think you should pay mention to the fact that this image was…imspired, by artwork for the game, Hitman - though your character isn’t bald, the pose is the same. Give credit where it is due.

There was no ref it was all from my head. But everything is inspired by something, i’ve never played the game Hitman but the only thing that I know it has in common is a name

fair enough if it wasn’t, just it bears an uncanny resemblace to renders from the new Hitman game. Pose and title made me think it was taken from there. If you’ve never heard of the game, can’t blame you for using the image.

Cheers.
