High Poly Animation with Max and Vray, problems!

Hi everyone, somewhat newbie question I fear (haven’t done much high poly animated stuff before)

Currently working on an animated architectural short in Max and the poly count/ram usage is steadily increasing and bringing the render times up with it (4-6 mins per frame)- I was wondering how it would be possible to get this time down without compromising detail, does anyone have any tips/tricks that could help?

Would vray proxies or xrefs work perhaps?
