Hi

Hi, Benny here. I’m glad to be a CGSociety Member. Currently, I’m working at a small company here in Hong Kong. Been here for about a year now and everything is great so far.

I’ve learned alot over the years from all the great members here at CGTalk. Looking forward to continue and expand my knowledge.

Great! I think it would be a good addition to these forums if we could hear more about the asian CG community. There have been some amazing pics in the gallery but the persons posting usually just vanish without replying (and I assume it’s due to language difficulties)

Keep us posted on the eastern front

Yeah, I think some ppl vanished because of the language barrier but I dont think I would have that problem since I’ve been in Vancouver for like 13 years. I moved back here 2 years ago because most of my friends and families are here. But you never know, I might move again later to wherever there is a great opportunity.

I guess I could help and translate some of the comments from chinese to english whenever it is needed so majority of the ppl will understand what they are talking about.

What do you want to know about the asian community? I could probably answer some of ur questions if you have them right now.

I have a question  I know your based in Hong Kong, so my question may be unrelated.

Years ago I spent some time doing Illustration in Seoul, South Korea. The CG industry was starting to gain interest. Nowdays I see some amazing works come out of South Korea and most other Asian countries and I’m curious to hear of what the training, or schooling systems are like in Asia in relation to CG? Is it a big thing over there, or are many still self taught?

Ok, I’ll try to answer ur question with my limited knowledge about the trainings in the asian countries. Since I studied 3d in vancouver, I might come to no use.

Hong Kong - There are lots of “training centres” here. Most of them offering from diplomas to certificates. They teach you mostly Maya or 3D max. But I could probably sum up the quality of MOST of the schools here with one word: SUCKS!!! They are all out there just for the money. They don’t teach you much (the basics maybe) but they charge you for alot. Of course, there are some exceptions. Occasionally there will be some courses with some good teachers that actually know what they are talking about. But there are a group of ppl that are self-taught and they come out with some amazing stuff.

Korea - I believe lots of the ppl here got their trainings in school since their government put alot of money and energy into the entertainment industry.

That is about as much as I know about other countries; but you’re right, we’re starting to have lots of amazing work coming out of asia.
