Hi folks :)

Hey folks

Great to be a part of this ever-expanding community!

Bit of BG on myself - I’ve been in CG for about 7 years, I’m currently a final year Computer Animation student at the University of Teesside (only 1 month left before the you-know-what hits the fan and I have to start paying taxes :scream:).

I’ve focused my time and skills on lighting, shading, comp and post over the last few years in the hope that I’ll eventually break into the film or TV markets within those production areas or something along those lines.

I’m a fervent XSI/MR user but my BG covers most major packages.

I’ve got a huge amount to learn and production experience to gain (two jobs as a runner gave me the taste, but I need the real thing!) but I’m looking forward to all the challanges that face me in the coming months and years, producing a kick ass demo reel (with the help of this awesome community) and finally getting work being the key goals.

Thanks to industry pros and helpful peers (namely the CGTalk crew), I’m gradually building up a library of production skills, experience and getting my name out there. I’ve got a long journey ahead of me, but I’m loving every minute of it.

Cheers all!

Now… where’s my double macchiato espresso :arteest:

Hey Alex - good to see ya on here

Does Shavon still teach at Teeside? She taught me years ago at Carlisle and she was dam fiiiiine then

#3

hey m8

yep she does - although she’s on maternity leave at the moment I think, so she’s probably also looking a little different than how you remember! She taught me Advanced Character Animation this year. one of the best tutors at the uni I think. just a shame she’s gone for now. been lumped for the final month :scream:

#4

Gah - my dreams scattered

Hehe glad both she and you are doing OK. Gonna be interesting to see where we all end up

Rock on! :buttrock:

#5

haha yes. that’s an “aquired taste” as they say

cheers and looking forward to seeing your site when it’s up!

#6

oi, oi… how you doing mate… we gotta go drinking in soho one of these days… get yer face bandied about a bit…

#7

hey man long time no speak! seems DBacklot will be down for some time  how have you been anyway? been chatting with Boone about doing another Meet this summer. let’s start hassling him to make it happen!

Hi alex. When I entered CGTalk the first thing I saw was your work. I like it a lot. I just got intro 3D and I like a lot lighting. I’m just an amateur with only a couple of months in it, but work like yours is inspiring. Keep up the good work, see you around.

#9

Cesar I just PM’d you

Only a couple of months, huh? Your work is excellent for only a couple months!

Hey Alex,

How goes it?

I wonder, does Siobhan teach other modules than Advanced Character Animation? We only had her for that one on our course (games design) and only the first semester cause of the maternity thing. I was a bit disappointed that the module was more about modeling and cinematography than animation. When they did get into animating it was interesting… just a pity there wasn’t more of it.

#11

hi mate

yeh same situation with ACA. the module covers everything from character design > editing = stupid in my opinion. leaves hardly any time for actual animation. never mind, eh. I don’t know what else she teaches.

how’s your work going.

#12

Not too bad. I’m pretty happy with how my big project turned out and the game me and my buddies are making for Games Development is going to kick ass, but I’m seriously behind on the haunted mansion for EFG, mostly because I’m a bit bored with environmental modeling, but also because I’ve just been too busy with the other projects. The other two assignments, the essay for Games Futures and the 25 sec lip-sync for ACA I can do pretty quickly but I have less than three weeks left so I need to step on it.

#13

'lo dude, nice to see you here, keep 'shugging

#14

ta m8

you know… I think we 'shuggers should have a 'shug-themed avatar month, before the star wars zombie one starts. what do you think?

#15

I already have a Meshuggah avatar

#16

ah yes but a 'shug-themed avatar  could be difficult. hmm…

#17

naaah, just change your ugly faced avatar  with the cover of Destroy, Erase, Improve and you’re done!

#18

the cheek of it! :wip:
