Don’t use Flatten mapping. It destroys any mapping you did before and doesn’t keep the size either. It basically breaks up everything in small pieces and makes a mess.
My favoured technique for such items is to use planar mapping and then using the UVHelp plugin to un-stretch my UVs. Works a treat once you get used to it.
If you have trouble with UV mapping, perhaps my texturing tutorials may help?

Hi!
this is just the best 3d helicopter iv ever seen, and your renders are amazing also…are you plannig to put soldiers insaide the helicopter?
@vladino: Yes as Skyraider already wrote, the flatten mapping is the problem which destroys your scaling of the UV´s.
@Vizu: Thanks
@Skyraider3D: Thanks for helping out
@STANER: Thanks, yes crew is planned, maybe also soldiers sitting in the back.
So I stop playing around now. Just one more (shitty) shot added
Quicktime PAL 16:9 about 23 MB
Haha don´t take it serious, all is just for learning a bit After Effects.
And finally I found the FINAL COLOR SCHEME of the Pave Hawk!

I hope you like it!
Cheers
André
Hmm ok… i better use this one.
I like the typical grey look more now than the greenish from before. It also looks better in high contrast color schemes and bright speculars later in animation.

Cheers
André
Ahh, cmon andré, the kitty one rocks!,
I’m a big hello kitty fan!, jk:P
Sehr schön!, keep em coming, this is amazing work:)
haha the kitty look rocks indeed :applause:
I like the modified color key! waiting for further animation with
crew and soldiers :bounce:
keep it up andré, it’s still and with every update even more one of the most
realistic renders i’ve ever seen here!!
manuel
This world would be a better one with Kitty-Hawks as military helicopters! The update is stunning, as always!
MORE!!
I must say, This is the best 3D I have seen on this forum and among the best ever!!
I like the pink heli, cant you do a animation with it
The detail you put into it is Amazing!
Indeed, what can go wrong with some japanese schoolgirls dangling on a blackhawk winch? :applause: :applause:
Hey, I’ve been watching your thread for a while. Exellent work!
The thing that bugs me about the shaders, is the super clean chromatic pieces at the end of antenna and in the base of rotor…seems way too clean.
Otherwise its quite nice model, and exellent texturing!
Well, I see we’re getting somewhere :). My question is then, what do you André use to avoid the destorying of the scale? Or much better, can you describe your proces step by step?
Sorry to bother you so much with this, but you’re gettin very nice results with your technique, so I would like to learn that from you :D.
Anyway, the Kitty vinyls rocks :buttrock:
. I would also like to see them in an animation!
Looking forward to your answers and of course the great images/animations your produce!
Thank for your help,
Vlado
Thank you for the support Ronnie!
I really appreciate
. You brought a light to my problem. I’ve studied your technique in which you use the animation. I see that it’s solution, but too difficult in my opinion. It will be great to have just some “magic” button by which you can copy the scale of the uv for example from other object. Don’t you know about something like this?
Anyway, you helped a lot, thanks!
Vlado
@Dean92: Hehe thanks, the Kitty is nice he?
@Manuel F.: Thanks
I knew you would like the Kitty
@MarcGoecke: Haha right, would be a nice idea!
@Mellwing: Tnnak you for the nice words. It seems to be that there are a few people who would like to see the Kitty be animated
@MadMeph:
That would be the top!
@RUS|Responce Bot: Thanks! Some parts need to stay very clean or the helicopter will fall fromm the sky
Maybe I weather it a bit.
@MaskTX: Thanks
@vladino: Hmm I don´t know why it is still going wrong? Just don´t use the flatten mapping and always use the same size of mapping gizmo, that´s really all I do! No magic button or so
“copy the scale of the uv for example from other object.” That exactly happens when you use the same gizmo size!
I just played around for testing color/contrast moods.

mmmh I like these heavy contrasts…
Maybe the one in the back need to be blurred a bit. I think I do a testanimation of this one.
Cheers
André
hey when you do post blur on your images, make sure it has the bokeh effect, since its what would true cameras would produce. Such effects add a ton of realism to images/animaiton.
@Ducimus: Thanks
@RUS|Responce Bot: Yes for sure when the background is rendered, I´ll include Bokeh (finalDOF). This was just a fast Photoshop compositing for testing out a mood.
Cheers
André
LMAO @ Hello-Kitty version…
That’s just rich! (Now try sneaking it into a Battlefield mod forum.)
I wouldn’t say they leak hydraulics anything like some vintage WWII craft still in operation, but yeah they do leak some. (Heavy usage, short maintenance schedules, nothing too far out of the norm for stuff in regular service rather than the airshow circuit.) I almost fell on my rear mustering in a hangar bay a few years back because there was just enough of a nice slick where one of these things was parked the night before. Also sometimes I’ve heard the airwing guys kid that if you ever have to ride in one, you’d better worry if it stops leaking. :eek: Never rode in one, but I’d take their word for it.
