HH-60G Pave Hawk MEDEVAC

#1

Trying to restore the old thread piece after piece…

Hello

Because I need something for my portfolio I decided to build and animate a Pave Hawk helicopter.

    Why did I chose it?

    - I´m interested in flying vehicles
    - There´s a lot of technical stuff to research and model
    - Character modeling, rigging and animation are included (crew: two pilots, one gunner)
    - particle animation and volumetracing for dust
    - rendering with render elements to train compositing
    - Model can be easily changed into a Black Hawk, Jay Hawk, Sea Hawk...

    Software I use:

    3ds max 8
    finalRender Stage-1
    PyroCluster 3.0
    Thinking Particles 2.5
    Photoshop CS2

What is a Pave Hawk? (source: Wikipedia US)

"The primary function of the Sikorsky HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter is to conduct day or night operations into hostile environments to recover downed aircrew or other isolated personnel during war. Because of its versatility, the HH-60G may also perform peace-time operations. Such tasks include civil search and rescue, emergency aeromedical evacuation (MEDEVAC), disaster relief, international aid, counter-drug activities and NASA space shuttle support.
The Pave Hawk is a highly modified version of the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter"

Sometimes it´s hard do do the research because every single Pave Hawk seems to have it´s own small modifications.

So here´s the current status of the model. There are still 27 points on my list to do (like the bad shape blendings on the tail)

And here the current status of the bumpmap:

I also try to do the right rotoblade modifications during engine off on the ground and flight (sorry, it´s in german)

Rotor setup for the modifications (animation soon)

And at least on fun rendering (textures and crew missing, currently also wrong blade modification) PAL 16:9

   Still a lot to do!

    I hope you like it!

    @Skyraider: Hehe yes, there´s still a ME-262 to finish.

    updates soon...

    Cheers
    André

Sure we like it
at least i like it a lot…

great work…hope to see it finished soon…

good work

#3

André, this is already a hell of a model, even in this work in progress state! The typical Cantarel “even more detail than necessary” approach !!!

#4

Haha thanks
Very close close-ups are planned in the animation so there´s some small stuff included

Cheers
André

#5

that’s an awesome model and quite a nice rendering, even if it’s a quick shot. let them fly!

#6

Wow, thats some great detail there

Very nice work there, eagerly waiting for you to get the crew done so we can see it in action :applause:

#7

Amazing detail and cool rigging…can’t wait to see the animation!

#8

How did you achieve the outlined look of you untextured model. This that a diffuse map, or a special shader?

#9

That detail-level is 1st. class and very inspiring. The mood in the rendering makes me “can’t wait” for the animation

really impressive work!! GOOD DONE!!

@Nightbreath: Thanks  I also hope to see it finished soon!

@pokoy: I will, I will  I want do do some shots, maybe also with tracked video stuff

@aeres: Yes the work on the crew will start soon. This chapter is pretty new for my, I only know the principles. Let´s see what happens

@Squash-n-Stretch: Hehe thanks a lot, I also want to see some animated stuff soon!

@mec6288: The outlines were done by finalToon, a toon shader/outliner, which is included in the finalRender Stage-1 package.

@Sercox: Thanks also  I like to use high contrast und less saturated colors.

EDIT:

@dEDa: hehe you were a bit too fast for me  thanks for the compliment!

Cheers
André

#12

Ahhh ok, you guys got me! I wasn´t able to resist any longer and I needed to play a bit. So here´s a small cheap viewport-flyby-preview from max with sound

preview animation

quicktime about 3.5 mb

don´t take it serious :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers
André

#13

Wow! beautiful model. Fantastic detail

#14

@Grindale: thanks :slight_smile:

Here´s a small update. I textured the tailrotor

There´s a lot of stuff written on the single blades

Cheers
André

#15

Hi there!
Awesome detail and accuracy! Really impressive! I am looking forward to the next steps and animations

Perfect job on modelling. The unique rendering style immediately remembered me of certain robots, the aircarft engine and the rotor you did in the past. The amount of detail ist impressive. May I ask, how you did the bumpmaps of the bolts on the tail? Perhaps z-buffer rendering of one 3D bolt and then copying and scaleing the result in photoshop?

The animation test gains a lot from the style of zooming in and out.

Weiter so und viele Grüße

This is an absolutely beautiful model. I find mechanical models appealing as it is, but this looks perfectly executed. May I ask what technique you used to model the hull of the helicopter?

#18

well… that’s awsome work again :banghead:
the model seems perfect to me! looks already fantastic without any texture but
i’m dying to see the final textured model animated

hurry up André! :applause:

#19

there is no difference between this model and the real one, fantastic this is what i call you reached the top of the modeling stages to such models, keep it up and show us few animation scenes. :buttrock:

great model, like the beauty render, good choice of background and camera angle
