Your work is amazing.

Ever since i stumbled onto this site your work has stood out and inspired me. In fact your work has inspired me so much i recently went out and bought a wacom tablet and decided to try drawing into photoshop instead of my sketchbook.

All Gushing aside i just was wondering do you use the burn tool or simply change colors in accordance with the different values

Thank you in advance for your time

Your work is mind numbingly great

Serena - How’s the nursing profession going in Italy? If I remember correctly that’s what you were going to school for or had gone to school. Perhaps, I’m wrong. In any case, I look forward to seeing some more updates on your thread. Many many thanks

Shipleydaniel - Thanks for good word and for dropping by. I haven’t posted as regularly as I’d like to. I’ve just been busy. When things slow down, I plan to post more. Anyhow, congrats on the new Wacom. I need to get a new one myself, it’s about ten years old!

Concerning color, I never use the burn tool. I just don’t care for the effect it creates and it doesn’t really help one’s understanding of color. With that said, I can see possibly using it to develop a grayscale underpainting in conjunction with the dodge tool.

Generally, I scribble a sketch like below, create another layer set to multiply and apply a loose wash of color(s). Using this method, your values should be preserved.

Afterwards, I will create another layer and begain painting with opaque color at various opacities.

The golden mean can be applied to color as well. In simple terms, the matra is:

 1. A lot
 2. Some
 3. A bit

When I apply color, I pick a dominant color (1) , meaning a hue that will occupy most of the composition, then some of another color and a little of another.

Here’s a quick example: 1 = Red / 2 = yellow / 3 = Blue

Well, I hope this helps a little.

Hi man !

Ow well I worked in a hospital as IT assistant but I decided to stop cause it can be self-damaging if you are not “quite with yourself”. Then I’m still writing my thesis and it’s taking a lot of time cause of my external stage for FIAT automobiles…

I honestly feel quite tired and sad cause my hand is harddd and heavy and I feel unable to paint ina good way. UFF.

Luckily you always amaze me with your pictures so my desire to paint come back to life.

Greatly organized picture the samurai’s one, especially if done in 15 minutes !

Show us more soon, please !

#786

Shipleydaniel - anytime

Serena - Thanks again for the kind words. So does your thesis relate to IT, art or something else?

#787

wow, your artwork is really good.

#788

Deheheh I love this last one. He gos a SO CUUUTE muzzle

Yes, it’s about IT, in the specific I’m treating document and knowledge management using Artificial Intelligence

Can’t wait to see more !

Very Cool!!!

#790

nice one dh …good to see youre still alive

#791

LOL, funky is the right word. There’s always a fresh and humorous idea when I come and browse your sketches. Very imaginative and the humour has a very unique kind of spice to it.

Together with your unique colour choices I am pretty sure I could tell your work among several of other paintings of other artists.

“Oh, that must be a Helzer!”

#792

M@DM@X - Thanks, much appreciated :)

Serena - Wow, sounds like an intense subject. Artwork is probably therapeutic after studying many hours for you. Thanks for the comments:)

remcv8 - yeah it’s something of that nature. What can be really funky is imagining the beasts in some sort of mating dance: prancing about, fanning their feathers, bellowing a moose-like call. In any case, thanks for the good word !

Vahn - Thanks Vahn, I haven’t been as active as I’d like to be. I’ve just been both busy and lazy, I guess.

Mu - I’m happy to hear my work is recognizable  Many thanks!

Hey Daniel

Been i while since i visited your thread. Exceptional as always!
Fantastic stuff!

#794

Thanks Redfrog  As always your thread is great. I especially like the fact that you show your actually product work alongside your sketches and ideas. At the end of the day, it must be very rewarding to hold a toy in your hand and say “Hey, I made this!” Pixels are one thing, but to be able to experience your art in a real world sense is a different kind of satisfaction. Cheers!

Threw some color on the above sketch

#795

…had a few more minutes and experimented by expanding the environment. If I find time, I might detail it out.

#796

Hey Daniel,

it’s interesting that you are expanding on this latest sketch, because I too felt that it had a very strong story to tell.

However, my suggestion would be not to get lost in the surroundings until you decided on the queen’s left hand pose - it seems to be the crucial point of the whole thing… beckoning? hesitating? Keeping to herself?

you know?

#797

Absolutely great!

I love this color choice !

#798

Mu - If I ever return to it, I’ll focus on the main characters more. Thanks for the good word

Serena - Thank you as well

Here are a couple of value paintings I plan to “traditionally” paint this fall – actually, I’m starting the Tarzen painting later this month. I just thought I’d post them.

…and here’s just an ordinary quick sketch:

#799

always good to see your sketches daniel. the tarzan pic is nice, like the pose and composition.

Nice thread. I enjoyed it a lot. I like your impressionist style, although I would see more finished work
