I haven’t posted in a while, just been busy at work. Anyow, 3 hours.

Here’s an update to the Monster Attacks Manhatten piece. I could be finished with it or I might go back to it later…I don’t know.

The lady with the sword is nice but seems a change of pace or style for you. Is this a conscious effort or simple coincidence?
Cris - Thanks, very much. I believe you are the “Painter” instructor, right? I checked out your portfolio awhile back, incredible work. Someday, I really need to get into the detailed mechanics of Painter.
rgkcalb - Thanks, as well
Yeah, I guess it’s a little different. I took a break from my sketch thread for a week or so, because I got slammed with an artwork project at my full-time gig. The stuff I created was very colorful and flowery. Since the Japanese lady was my first sketch after the project, perhaps on a sub-conscious level it influenced my general style – although, sometimes, I don’t think I have a style.
I think I have two or three styles I juggle around a bit, but I’m not really loyal to a particular look. With that said, perhaps this sketch is closer to what you had in mind. Thanks for you questions, much appreciated.![]()
1hr.

Yeah…the japanese girl is so not you…i mean the dark you is just not there.
But its a nice addition to your sketches.
Talking about style, i think im lighyears from finding mine…being so much influenced by what i see entirely.
CyborgJA - Thanks
By the way, I really dig your anatomy paintings on your thread. They almost have a sculptural quality to them. Great stuff !!
Nazirull - LOL, thanks for your honesty
Yeah, I guess I’ll stick to the darker side of things.
Again, thanks everyone.

wow, that last sketch - wonderfully subtle. just wish the parasol didn’t look quite so pasted on, if you see what i mean. i think it’s something to do with the way the inner ring fights the perspective. but anyway, keep up the great work
You are very gentle, as usual. I think that I’ve been helped by italian history. Here you can see hundreds of statues right in a 10 minutes walk.
Man…listen to me…I was surfing your whole 3D. I’ve noticed that you have got “periods” like Picasso. First starships then Japan then…Why don’t you create a e-book with all your sketches?
audit - Yeah, you are totally correct
I was rushing it, I guess. As the season changes to winter, where I live, I plan to do some oil/water color paintings and this will be one of them. When that time comes around, I will be a bit more discerning about the parasol. Thanks, man ![]()
Nazirull - Finally, I got my portfolio up. I still need to add pieces and polish a few that are already in there. I got your invitation for a network connection via email. I’m not sure quite how it works, but I agreed to it. As far as the guestbook, I’ll see if I can open it after this post. Thanks as always!
PremiereBoris - “GAH! My English teacher!” LOL.
You’re Spanish teacher is next!
CyborgJA - I did a backpacking stint throughout Europe several years ago and Italy was probably my favorite place to visit. The amount and quality of art is mind-blowing. All around, it’s just a beautiful country. I also remember taking a trip to a little island, called “Capri”…I think that’s the proper name. Very charming place, with rows of little shops and nice beaches. Anyhow, thanks for the good word, Serena.
Perhaps, someday, I will do a ebook…although, like every artist, if I go a few pages back and review my work, I don’t really care for it any longer.

Ahaha, excuse me ! Here in Italy we are used to write 3D as “thread” :love:I apologize for the mistake. I’ll use extended words in future
@Daniel : Capri, is right! Even if it is a holiday-place, well known for its sea and little shops where you can buy totally hand-made objects. If you’ll have a trip here I suggest you to plan a 2 weeks on Rome or a week in Florence (you’ll loose your head viewing the David of Michelangelo!)
Waiting for the book I wrap myself up (as a roulade) in my blanket.
Goodnight
Oh you are just too good. Your portraits have a touch of the Masters in them and I’m insanely jealous you can just pop that level of quality off at ALL, let alone in a couple of hours. I have no crits to offer, it would feel like a farce to me, really, since I only hope to achieve this level. SO, I’ll just humbly continue to follow your posts.
Just want to drop in and say hello,
Wonderful works! I like the one with the red umbrella most…really made me curious what she looks like, or why she needed to cover-up like that. The colors are also very vibrant. I also really like the pose and design of the wild man/creature in the Monster piece.
Will be back to peek some more…
SUB7NYC - I’m glad you can see the changes. I few like I have done a thousand sketches since the first posting. In reality, though, I’ve only reached 250 (including tonight’s posting). I guess it’s just a slow process. Many thanks for your thoughts
Kelandra - It has been awhile hasn’t it? Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I’m kind of fond of the umbrella piece too. I guess it is a little mysterious – she’s probably just passing along a Jell-O recipe or something
Ferguson - Thank you for such a generous compliment, I really appreciate ![]()
CyborgJA - Hi Serena, I saw David while I was there, albeit only a week. It is a marvel to see. I also remember seeing a portrait of the Pope (which one, I can’t remember) done by Francis Bacon. It was weird to see such an image in one of the Vatican’s museums since his style is dark, surreal and full of torment. I was also in Florence for a few days. I stayed right down the street from an art school – which one, I couldn’t tell you. In any case, it was a very cool trip
