Helpfull thread (i hope)

#1

Hey all of you guys!
I was thinking about how helpfull it could be to others to see how you work. So i came up with this idea, and i hope it’s a good idea, to get a photo from your camera, inet or wherever and cut it to half and paint the other half. You can try to paint how it was or you can put your own imagination into it. You can try to make it as realism as you can, but you can also try to give it a cartoonish swing, just as you want it to be.
Also i thought it would be a good idea to post a little tutorial / walk-through with it, so people can learn from it, because that’s the main goal of this thread!

I hope i'm a bit clear, as since i'm not born in England, America or an other english speaking country.

#2

hah, nice idea, gotta try that sometime

.

#3

yeah! and you better post them here! :scream::smiley:

#4

First try! DAMN THIS IS HARD
I know it isn’t any good, but hey at least i tried! :D:scream:

I began with coloring the painting and i made the roofingtiles with a custom brush (like a flat brush) and after it i draw some light and dark colors (on a new layer) on a very low opacity:

After that i made the wall a bit better and painted some grass with a custom brush.

Painted tiles on the wall, gave the side-wall some green, painted the chimney.

Hey cool idea! I dont’ have much time lately but if I have some spare time I will give it a go.

#9

dude, you could use the transform tools to get the perspective right,
if you’re using photoshop or something with such a tool, that is.

.

#10

Okay, second try :bounce:

It went better, cause i learned from the first one so i knew how to begin and so on.

Final (1,5 / 2 hours):

Line:

--------------------------------------

I first drew the basic lines on a new layer:

After that i made this half black, cause that’s the far background color:

I colored everything what isn’t black. I used the darkest color, because it gets only lighter!
All with custom brushes (You guys want me to post my brushes?)

After it i detailed everything. First draw black spots (i did it with my custom brushes) as shadows, after that highlighted everything. (final)

zng-Y,

Hmm, this is very cool! So this is sort of like a matte painting thread? Or can people post nonphotographic paintings as well?

Nice work!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#12

This would make a great DSG topic

#13

Yep

it’s a very nice idea, Zng-y
How do you create the “reflection” effect on the river and can you share your brushes it could be really useful

Here is my little attempt

Big up for this thread

uhmmm…i think i just deleted ALL of my brushes…^#&@^$&@#
I’ll create my main-brushes again today and post them immediately

Guys, awesome response, nice to hear that it’s so apreciated! :bounce:

Booyaka Nice try you got there! When you look at the reflections on the right side you see that they are kind of brushed downwards and you can also see the colors of the houses and stuff. So for next time try to brush your reflections downwards too and also color the reflections of the houses. Hey but once again, NICE try! Looking forward to your next try!

Rebeccaaaaaaaaa Thank’s! The main goal of this thread is learning to handle with unusal textures, shapes, etc. and so i came up with this idea. :scream::smiley:

djtrousdale Thank’s , i hope so!

RobertoOrtiz Sounds great!
