Help with sequin wall type effect

#1

So I have set-up a data operator to create a glitter effect that I can apply to any object and it aligns the particles to the normal with a bit of random so they aren’t perfectly aligned to the normals. (see attached jpgs)
Now I want to add a bit of a wind/turbulence to it so it shimmers, kind of like a sequin wall.

I have tried using a noise map to control rotations by colour but I cant get it to animate when it is added to the glitter set-up. As soon as I try any functions to add the 2 together any animation is lost. Also have not figured out how to get the animation working on it’s own yet as well. Not sure how to get the grey scale values from a noise map to control rotations in any meaningful way with point colour.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rotations are rotations are difficult. (it is why using a spin and a rotation in the same event rarely works as expected, same with data ops. Not saying you can’t do it, just more trouble than its worth) Just send the particles to a new event with some spin/jitter when they change on the greyscale, then loop them back into the test event after a specified time or other condition. I think that or something similar would be the easiest most straight forward directable approach.

Hey Johnny

Thanks for the input. It looks like I may have got it working just in the data op. Just a few things to clean up then I will post it in the pflow thread for anyone who is interested.

Cool, would love to see it! Rotations have always been a bit a a rough spot for me
