Help with magnet, smoothing

Hi, I am trying working my models in wings and only two things bother me a bit, first how do you increase the smoothness of the model on the display window?
Secondly, how do you go about using the magnet option easily, I mean leving it active with a certain radius until you change it or using hotkeys to access it, because at the moment is a pain going back and forth with the keys and the mouse only to move along one axis.
By the way how do you move an element constrained to two axis?

    2&3) Have You tried tweak mode with magnet (enter Tweak mode, hit ‘1’ key, adjust range using +/- and) ?

Thanks Azazel, I am using the tweak mode now and is great. About the smooth thing, I am using Shift-Tab, but that toggles the 1st subdivision only, Is there a way to subdivide more without changing the geometry? It is a minor thing tough.

Currently shift-tab subdivides only once. You can select the object, rightclick>smooth twice, but it’s slow, and you’ll have to undo it…
