Help with displacement for 3ds max

Hi,

I’m having trouble exporting a displacement map from zbrush to use in 3ds max + vray.

I managed to make it work fine with previous models using the awesome tutorial by Akin Bilgic (http://www.cggallery.com/tutorials/displacement/). However, the model I am currently working with doesn’t work as I would expect. Although some of the detail gets transfered, I have no luck with the high frequency detail.

I am using a 4k map, I already tried doing a reset xform to the geometry and I still couldn’t get it to work. Any suggestions?

In case I used Geometry HD, would the procedure for extracting the displacement map would be the same?

Sometimes it can be better to capture your fine detail in a normal/bump map, generated from the 2nd highest to the highest sub-div level.

Also, did you try lowering the edge length in the vray dispmod?
