Help!!Undoing Smooth...

#1

Hi.I made a model and was smoothing it.When it finished smoothing,Wings crashed. So I reopened the file and the model is smoothed.I was wondering how I can get it back to its original mesh. Thanks!

Sorry, there’s no way. Revert to an earlier version of the model if there is one. Check your .wings~ and #.wings# files.
Make a habit of saving incrementally often.

Selecting and dissolving alternate edges (then use Object | Cleanup) will get you back to the previous state of complexity - but how close it is to your original model is a totally different ball game and will entirely depend on the mesh.

Likewise, collapsing alternate edge rings can help, but the volume will shrink and the contours will be distorted.

hmm, this makes me think of something I just noticed in Maya (its in C4D as well) When smoothing anything in Maya it leaves a node that you can freely adjust how many smooth increments you want, you can go from 0 to 4 or 5 I believe… (if you want more? just add another smooth node) and that way when you save with a smooth still on all you have to do is go back into that nodes properties and turn down the smooth… amazingly usefull in my opinion…

i think you’re screwed this time, try what has been suggested and either undo (CTRL + SHIFT + Z) or go back to a previous state. next time use SHIFT + TAB for a quick smooth. this will toggle smoothing, its rough, but gives you a good idea. plus it really fast.

Zbrush2 has a Reconstruct subdiv feature. If you haven’t made any changes to the mesh topology after the smooth operation it can get you back to the control cage.
