Help Regarding Softwares

Currently I am in a college and attending the short term vfx course but now I am really confused about my future.I thought of starting as roto artist but now I am really into fx part(dynamics/particle) but I am confused whether to learn maya or max ,which one has better dynamics part? And which other software’s do I need to learn to become an fx artist?

“Which software is better” threads usually get closed here, I think because like politics they run the risk of descending into flames. :wavey:

Well since this is an educational purposed board, rather than the usual biased GD forum, I’ll attempt an answer specific to your query. That said although FX is not my field of expertise, however as an aspiring indie games dev, there is crossover in terms of workflow/pipeline between VFX and Games, implemented via ADSK and/or SideEffects licenced products.

To that end, the two key apps I’d suggest you consider in evaluating are Maya plus Houdini, coupled with also worth noting if you’ve acquired along the line, some coding/scripting aptitude eg: MEL, Python for starters, which definitely aside from an strong artistic ability, in a technical sense programming is looked upon as a definite plus.

Anyways as mentioned I’m not experienced in the discipline, but as a general overview acquired through my own previous industry research, fair to say is IMHO the toolset/s leveraged within an FX pipeline usually, not to say others with relevant experience may validate or revise my comments on the whole.

Cheers
