Help needed: Ripple effect


Hi everyone.

I’m trying to create an animation in which I have a rectangle passing through an cube. What I want to achieve is to have the top of the cube simulate water - so as the rectangle passes through it, it will ripple. I’ve tried doing this through ClothFX but with no luck; the water surface just stretches around the rectangle and it looks all horrid.

Does anyone know how I can achieve what I’m after? I’ve not really used any of the dynamics before, so I’m not even sure that what I’m doing is even the right thing to do…


Try sticking a null on the top of your rectangle, and adding a displacment to your object it passes through. You would then use the ripple displacment, and use your null as a reference object. Should work as an additive layer.
