Help needed cutting a mesh

#1

Sorry i am a bit of a noob but i’m going mad trying to find out if this is possible. i have created a wheel by drawing its profile and the using a lathe filter to produce the main body, i then worked out where i wanted to cut out the spokes and made a sperate line drawing as a template(Pink) and used the array tool to make the 5 of them. i was hoping to god that there would be some quick and nice way to use these to cut holes through the main body mesh. as both the hole templates and the body have a high poly count and it would take me years to cut all the edges and drag new ploys to joing the spoke to teh back of the wheel.

any help will be great:) i really hope this is possible.

if you don’t want to cut by hand then Boolean is probably the only way.It will leave a terible mess of edges that you will have to clean up.To cut down on the workload delete 3/4 of the mesh model the extra detail and mirror twice to regain the original shape.
Max 9 will have power Booleans plugin integrated so headaches like this will be a thing of the past.
this would have been so much easier if maybe you had planned it out a little better from the beginning.
Possibly a valuable lesson you’ve taught yourself.

yeh its just the tutorial i followed was for a plain dish wheel and i thought this would be quicker to copy. in the end i spent hours trying to see if i could cut these parts out and i probably could have done it another way. the poly count is also out of this work aswell, i’m never gonna be able to implement it. so i think it may be start again time. yay

Use ShapeMerge on this. Would be a good idea to work only on a part of the wheel and clone/rotate it later, since it’s a repetitive structure(sorry for my english).
