Hi, I’m a new member. My name is Isa Alsup, and I’ve been a CG artist for only a short while, about 26 years or so.
Right now I’m publishing a blog on The Art of CG Supervision at http://cgsupervisor.blogspot.com/. It’s a really new blog, only a few posts, but I’m optimistic. I’ve compiled a list of over 200 topics to get my thoughts going.
The reason I started this blog is because as a CG Supervisor for almost all my career, I’ve seen almost no one writing about CG from the management or supervision perspective. If they are, I cannot find it. So I thought this blog would be a good start for the community.
Over the years I’ve read many technical forums and posted a few answers now and then. It’s been a big help, so I felt that it would be good to give something back to the community and to give the CG community back something unique. I’ve always been interested in the art and the technology, but beyond that there is a human face to this business, and cg supervision is where all three get combined.
I hope readers will come to my blog and give me their feedback. I’m sure that whatever I write will be good for someone, and whatever the responses I get will be good for me.
Before I started this blog I was departmental CG supervisor for a small production company in Sherman Oaks, California, FLIGHT 33, producer of excellent programming seen on the History Channel and Discovery Channel: The UNIVERSE, LIFE AFTER PEOPLE, FIRST APOCALYPSE, SEVEN DEADLY SINS, HUMAN SACRIFCE, BATTLE 360 and others. It was a great place to work, and in my 18 months there I learned a lot as a CG supervisor about the human side of the business.
I ran a boutique CG company for 8 years, AceFx Digital, and freelanced most of the last 17 and CG supervised films like MORTAL KOMBAT, IMMORTAL BELOVED and The Shadow.
I began working in CG in 1983. I will post my story of how I broke into CG on my blog someday. Let me just say here that I had the great fortune of teaching myself to use the first 2d paint software sold in the world, and because I did that I became the first staff artist using that software and was one of the early 3d artists as well. In my job at THE POST GROUP I worked with many new technologies before they were put on the market or as they were first introduced.
I’m swamped with work right now, but I hope to get into some of the forums and contribute what little I can. I wish everyone the best of fortunes, and invite you to check out THE ART OF SUPERVISION. http://cgsupervisor.blogspot.com/
