Hello from Canary Islands, Spain!

#3

Hi neighbour,
I’m also here in the Canary Islands and yes it’s a great place.
I’ve only been to Lanzarote once but it’s an awesome place… the landscape is really different to Gran Canaria, almost like the moon. Planet of the Apes (original verion) was filmed there as was Enemy Mine.

So what are you doing there, anything CG related??

#4

Thanks Rens, yes it’s really great to live

Hi Brendan, what a surprise! a “canarión” here! I work as graphic designer in the Cabildo and work as freelance too, music and video. I’m working in 3D (Cinema4D and Modo) from some years ago but no profesionally. I want to learn a lot more.

I visited your website, wow, fantastic works… and 5 illustrations published in Exposé 2!! (I have it). Congratulations for your talent

#5

hello Juanje - welcome

#6

Thanks Juanje,

Weeeellll… I am a bit of a fake. I’ve been only living here for 2 years now but we have settled down here. I am working hard on learning spanish and taking in the sun when I can get a chance. Anyway I love it here and it’s great that I can do my work from here.

Hey there, I’m a bit late on this one but I’m moving out to Gran Canaria tomorrow so thought I’d post and say Hi ! My family has an apartment out there which is hardly ever used and as I’m trying to improve my spoken Spanish I’m moving out there for a while to see how things turn out.

I’m taking out all my traditional art stuff so hopefully I’ll be able to carry on building up that side of my portfolio away from my computer.

It’s seems that there’s people from every area of the planet in this forum !

Well, I hope you have a nice trip out Tom. The weather here at the moment is beautiful and it’s not so hot yet. So what’s you plan when you get here? are you thinking of living and working here or is it just a short stay? Luckily for me I have been able to set up here permanently and can certainly recommend the lifestyle. There are a couple more CG guys in town so don’t be a stranger.

Juanje : Lets make the next workshop in your homeland  Wow it would be great.

#10

Thanks bmcaff !!

I’ll be looking for work when I get out there. I did a degree in Art at Chelsea in London a while ago and am a Sun Certified Java Developer but am happy to do pretty much anything. I’ve worked as a Marketing Executive in Fulham, as an assistant at a photographic studio, as a civil servant and have taught wheel pottery for quite a bit so have turned my hand to quite a few things.

I’m young (okay fairly young at 29) and single so might even work in a bar for a while for the time being and see how that pans out.

Not having to pay any rent at a place with great weather, pretty girls, cheap drink and a fun atmosphere where I could properly learn another language was too great a chance to turn down.

To be honest it’ll be painful but I’ll be glad to get away from my computer as I’ve spent the majority of the last 5 years attached to it.

Juanje : Lets make the next workshop in your homeland Wow it would be great.

Sure, no problem here! Actually there is a beautiful weather

Tonik, (and bmcaff), let me know if you visit Lanzarote. Good luck in Gran Canaria!

Welcome!

I was in UK the last summer, and, in summer, i preffer the british weather than spanish.
Watch out the sun… or you will become a red red zool

#13

Too late Sergio. Heh, I´ve already become a red red zool but not as bad as some of those sunburnt British people you see out here. I´ve been around for about a week and am just about getting used to and enjoying the weather. I went up to Roque Nueblo yesterday and it was absolutely beautiful.

I´ve been quite pleased with the amount I´m filling up my sketchbook but it´s too easy to just lie in the sun and swim in the sea sometimes.

Everyone speaks so quickly it´s very different from learning Spanish in the UK but I´m slowly starting to get it. My vocab still needs a lot of work though.

Hey Brendan - I´m planning on a trip up to Las Palmas sometime soon so if you have spare moment it´d be great to speak to someone who´s made the switch here permanent and of course I´m a big fan of your artwork. It could even be an inaugral meeting of a Canary Islands Chapter !

#14

Hi Tom, I’m glad to hear your liking it here.
Sure, I’d be more than happy to meet up. Why don’t you contact me on MSN and we can arrange something. I’ll add you now.

#15

Hi! spanish people! great!

you´re lucky living there!
but you know, here in Madrid is great too. I have these traffic jams, this 42º C, this 45 minutes down the subway to get to my job daily… Just FUN.

#19

Hahaha! I’m Korean  But I can say “hola” and “hasta luego”. That’s about the extent of it

Rebecca, excuse me, I thinked you was from Spain by your name! Pleased to meet you (“encantado de conocerte”)

#21

Yay! I get to learn real Spanish!

encantado de conocerte tambien! (I think that’s right…) I hope I didn’t just say, “Your Wacom is made of Carrots”.

Rebecca I think that would be “encontada” as you´re female.

I´ve been here in the Canary Islands for a month or so now and am having a great time. I met up with Brendan (bmcaff) in Las Palmas having got in touch after seeing this thread. He seems like a really great guy.

If you´re ever over in Gran Canaria Juanje it would be cool to see any fellow CGers !!! I don´t know how easy it is to get from island to island.
