Hello from Canary Islands, Spain!

Well, I hope you have a nice trip out Tom. The weather here at the moment is beautiful and it’s not so hot yet. So what’s you plan when you get here? are you thinking of living and working here or is it just a short stay? Luckily for me I have been able to set up here permanently and can certainly recommend the lifestyle. There are a couple more CG guys in town so don’t be a stranger.

Juanje : Lets make the next workshop in your homeland  Wow it would be great.

Thanks bmcaff !!

I’ll be looking for work when I get out there. I did a degree in Art at Chelsea in London a while ago and am a Sun Certified Java Developer but am happy to do pretty much anything. I’ve worked as a Marketing Executive in Fulham, as an assistant at a photographic studio, as a civil servant and have taught wheel pottery for quite a bit so have turned my hand to quite a few things.

I’m young (okay fairly young at 29) and single so might even work in a bar for a while for the time being and see how that pans out.

Not having to pay any rent at a place with great weather, pretty girls, cheap drink and a fun atmosphere where I could properly learn another language was too great a chance to turn down.

To be honest it’ll be painful but I’ll be glad to get away from my computer as I’ve spent the majority of the last 5 years attached to it.

Sure, no problem here! Actually there is a beautiful weather

Tonik, (and bmcaff), let me know if you visit Lanzarote. Good luck in Gran Canaria!

Welcome!

I was in UK the last summer, and, in summer, i preffer the british weather than spanish.
Watch out the sun… or you will become a red red zool

#13

Too late Sergio. Heh, I´ve already become a red red zool but not as bad as some of those sunburnt British people you see out here. I´ve been around for about a week and am just about getting used to and enjoying the weather. I went up to Roque Nueblo yesterday and it was absolutely beautiful.

I´ve been quite pleased with the amount I´m filling up my sketchbook but it´s too easy to just lie in the sun and swim in the sea sometimes.

Everyone speaks so quickly it´s very different from learning Spanish in the UK but I´m slowly starting to get it. My vocab still needs a lot of work though.

Hey Brendan - I´m planning on a trip up to Las Palmas sometime soon so if you have spare moment it´d be great to speak to someone who´s made the switch here permanent and of course I´m a big fan of your artwork. It could even be an inaugral meeting of a Canary Islands Chapter !

#14

Hi Tom, I’m glad to hear your liking it here.
Sure, I’d be more than happy to meet up. Why don’t you contact me on MSN and we can arrange something. I’ll add you now.

#15

Hi! spanish people! great!

you´re lucky living there!
but you know, here in Madrid is great too. I have these traffic jams, this 42º C, this 45 minutes down the subway to get to my job daily… Just FUN.

Hi, Juanje  Welcome to our little corner of nerdiness  or is that not pc? Ok, ‘geekiness’

#17

Thanks, Rebecca and Beatriz! Great to find spanish girls here!

#18

Wow… I didn’t see you here either Juanje… this is turning into PXC2.

Welcome to CGS! :wavey:

#19

Hahaha! I’m Korean  But I can say “hola” and “hasta luego”. That’s about the extent of it

#20

Hey, Jason, nice to find to you here! yeah, I think there is a lot of PXC friends in CG

Rebecca, excuse me, I thinked you was from Spain by your name! Pleased to meet you (“encantado de conocerte”)

#21

Yay! I get to learn real Spanish!

encantado de conocerte tambien! (I think that’s right…) I hope I didn’t just say, “Your Wacom is made of Carrots”.

#22

Rebecca I think that would be “encontada” as you´re female.

I´ve been here in the Canary Islands for a month or so now and am having a great time. I met up with Brendan (bmcaff) in Las Palmas having got in touch after seeing this thread. He seems like a really great guy.

If you´re ever over in Gran Canaria Juanje it would be cool to see any fellow CGers !!! I don´t know how easy it is to get from island to island.

#23

Welcome. There is no such thing as nerdiness/geekiness! We are HUMAN BEINGS!

Have fun here! not there, because there is where it won’t be here!

Well, that didn’t make since…

Peace out.
Jon

Good attempt!,
but It’s said “encantada”,if you are female.
not “encontada” nor “encantado”

“encantado” is for male

my english is very bad, i’m glad to get correction…
don’t worry about your spanish.

Sure, Tom. I’ll be very busy the next 2 months and I don’t think that travel to Las Palmas in that time. To visit Lanzarote is very cheap! It’s cheaper by boat but look for deals by plane (Aireuropa: “el tijeretazo”). Give me a touch if you come (mail, ichat-AIM…)

#26

Ah well. That´s happens when you try to learn a language through CDs but I was nearly there. Heheh.

Juanje - At some point I want to check out some of the other islands so I might take you up on that offer. I´m still working out how long I´m going to be here with work and stuff but things are pretty cool out here so far. I´m definitely going to have to learn to surf properly before I go back to England.
