Hello CGS

#1

Hi all,

My name is Nic Harrison, aka Freebooter. The handle dates back to the time before I started CG when I used to run an Historical Fencing group in the West Highlands, known as the “Highland Freebooters”.

I wouldn’t describe myself as an artist, more of a sort of artistic techie. I’ve been working freelance for a few years now, but last year hooked up with a bunch of other like-minded freelancers as a way of getting more work through the door.

CGSociety looks like a great idea, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the evolution happen.

Nic.

Interesting background story
I sure recognize the artistic tech thing. More than often I find myself spending more time on changing the way the interface looks, than actually getting some polygons to do stuff on screen

Welcome to the group !!

thx1138,
Yeah, I see what you mean, it’s pretty obscure. That’ll teach me not to post first thing in the morning.:banghead:

I should add that I’m 32, live in Scotland, and have been doing CG for about five years or so. I used to teach fencing, before that I was an actor/guide in Edinburgh, and back before that I studied archaeology at uni. (I don’t seem to have a good track record at choosing profitable careers, but there’s never been a dull moment either). I also have a four month old son, Max (no relation to software).

Most of the time I’m working as a TD, doing some modelling, character and scene setups (and the occasional foray into texturing and lighting when I can). Like many I’d like to be a better animator.

Worked on a short film last year, www.roguefarm.com
Total Blast. I’d love to do another one.

Oh - and I have a (CG) addiction,

…but that goes without saying.

Hello FlyingP!

Yeah, I kinda wombled through things for quite a while. As to hangovers, Edinburgh seems to specialise in them.

Glad to see you’refinally headed home again…Good Luck when you get there.
