HDRI lighting


I’m starting out using HDR images for my work and I’ve run across an image that I don’t fully understand. I’ve attached the image to illustrate.
How do you import an object into the scene and have a shadow be cast under it? I am guessing that specialized software is being used here?



You can combine both HDR and “traditional” lights and so create a soft shadow under the sphere using a spotlight. I think that all the mainstream 3d software can do this. I’m sure for 3dsmax, modo, maya and c4d.
