HCR Modeling #47: Warriors of the Zodiac

#1

Zodiac
The term zodiac derives from Latin zōdiacus, which in its turn comes from the Greek, meaning “circle of animals”. The name is motivated by the fact that half of the signs of the classical Greek zodiac are represented as animals (besides two mythological hybrids).

The signs are:

  1. Aries The Ram
  2. Taurus The Bull
  3. Gemini The Twins
  4. Cancer The Crab
  5. Leo The Lion
  6. Virgo The Maiden
  7. Libra The Scales
  8. Scorpio The Scorpion
  9. Sagittarius
  10. Capricorn “Goat-horned” (The Sea-Goat)
  11. Aquarius The Water-Bearer
  12. Pisces The Fish[30]

CHINESE ZODIAC:
The Chinese zodiac (Chinese: 生肖; pinyin: shēngxiào) is the classification scheme that assigns an animal to each year in a repeating twelve-year cycle. The 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac is an approximation to the 11.86-year cycle of Jupiter, the largest planet of the solar system.[

The signs are:

1.Rat –(Yang, 1st Trine, Fixed Element Water)
2.Ox – (Yin, 2nd Trine, Fixed Element Water)
3.Tiger – (Yang, 3rd Trine, Fixed Element Wood)
4.Rabbit – (Yin, 4th Trine, Fixed Element Wood)
5.Dragon –(Yang, 1st Trine, Fixed Element Wood)
6.Snake – (Yin, 2nd Trine, Fixed Element Fire)
7.Horse – (Yang, 3rd Trine, Fixed Element Fire)
8.Goat – (Yin, 4th Trine, Fixed Element Fire)
9.Monkey – (Yang, 1st Trine, Fixed Element Metal)
10.Rooster –(Yin, 2nd Trine, Fixed Element Metal)
11.Dog – (Yang, 3rd Trine, Fixed Element Metal)

THE CHALLENGE:___________________________

Sculpt, in a period of 1 month and two weeks, one or more 3D representations of either the western or Chinese Zodiac, based on extensive research… For this challenge, attention to detail an imagination are essential.

The idea of this “mini-challenge” is to simulate an impossible deadline for a project. The artists will have at their discretion how detailed the models they will be working on, what program they will be using, the amount of models, and if the models will be shaded/ rigged. But the model will have to be original creation based on EXTENSIVE research.

At the end of the challenge the final model will have to look like a scene that we might see in a cg movie or a commercial.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Detailed RESEARCH, and attention to detail are key for ALL entries. Please before doing an entry do your homework.

The best model will be selected by an open vote

Hello, I’m not going to be able to take part in this challange - But I have some time off coming up in a couple of weeks. I know this challange isn’t over yet and I might be jumping the gun a bit, but I was wondering when you were thinking of running modeling challenge #48?
