Woowooooo! I am all in on this one baby!
Roberto, your threads don’t look very sticky.

#4

I want to make an original mecha from xenogears.

#5

Since the game was released in the 90’s it is kosher.

Have fun.

#6

Would Lara Croft from Tomb Raider be OK?

#7

Now I’m definitive overwhelmed so big bandwidth on Classic Gaming you know.

#8

Well the first Tomb Raider was release in 1996 so iii s Kosher. But I would base your work from the classic video game.

#9

Count me in! I will model the young Princess Zelda from the Ocarina of Time game.

#10

I hope to have enough time :/…

#11

I have a question about research and inspiration.

My skill lies in 3D modeling, but not so much in sketches and drawings. My workflow usually involves surrounding myself with the best artwork of others, and then letting that be my inspiration for the models that I make.

My questions are these:

  1. Am I allowed to enter a model without having done any drawings of my own?
  2. Do I need to post the inspirational artwork as “research?”

Thank you very much. I look forward to this challenge!

#12

Yeas and yes.
Just have fun man.

Welcome to CGTalk Lefthandsling. I think its cool that this is where you decided to stop in.

This challenge is all about the modeling. You can create your own concepts if you like but not required at all.

#14

Wait, some things are still unclear to me. First if all, do we have to post concept art made by ourselves, or the concept art made by the original creators of the game? How detailed does our research have to be, or does there have to be any at all if not necessary? Can someone describe in more detail how we have to post the WIPs and models in all of the different threads? I’m new to mini challenges. Are we only supposed to put renderings of the models, or the actual file that can be opened by a 3D software (e.g. .mb, .dwg, .ma)? This also goes for the final entry. What do they mean by the beauty render? What do they mean by best original interpretation of established door? How do they expect us to enter a diorama? Like I said, I’m new to the mini challenges. Thanks.

#15

First, it’s a mini challenge so the rules are very loose. Usually, the only hard and fast rules are the category (80s, 90s retro games) and that you make all your own assets.

-Concepts, either yours or someone elses, are not necessary. They typically just help when you want critique.
-Research is just to help you. Be as complete as you want.
-To start, check someones older thread, make your own like it and start posting WIP images as you go.
-Models are not necessary, just images.
-Beauty render is just your final best output. Don’t worry about that yet.
-“Best original interpretation of established door” is probably old text from a previous challenge.
-To enter a diorama, make a diorama.

The rules aren’t quite that important, just have fun and try to learn something new. There is no prize other than honor.

#16

Thanks, WyattHarris. That really helped. Now that my questions are answered, bring it on!!!

#17

sorry i am new here but where can i go to join the challenge

#18

You don’t have to. All you have to do to be eligible to win is begin your work and post WIP (work in progress) images and follow all of the rules. However, I don’t know how to post WIPs in your own thread. I am new to this as well, and I was told to look at someone else’s WIP threads for inspiration. :keenly:

#19

Hi!

If I’m not wrong, I have to post any WIP here and in my own challenge thread, am I wrong?

Anyway, here is the first image from the Shining Force character I am working on.

Title: Final Fight

When I was a kid I played a lot this game in the arcades with my friends. Cody was my main choice character. So for this work I tried to give a new vision for this game with a lot more detail and objects. I would love to see a new version of this game, the style of the characters are unique.

For this project I believe I spent more or less 20 hours of work. I always like to put bones in my characters, because I can test them in a lot different poses and I also can make final adjustments in the proportions. I really love to play with the model.

I used 3Ds Max and Photoshop for color corrections.
