Hi!!

That’s my first time participating on a HCR Modeling Challenge so I’ve some questions.
My idea its to create a Diorama with 4 or 5 swordsmen, from diferent periods killing each other, like the typical evolution graphic but with swordsmen.

At this point my questions are:

a) Can it be violent? Even gore? Or is preferable to keep it less violent?

b) On a certain point of the explanation you wrote: MODEL SERIES, Imagine a soldiers in different time periods, Spartan/ Roman/WWII soldier.
Should we keep to the proposed periods or it’s just an idea/inspiration?
I was thinking more on viking or tribal, medieval, samurai, futuristic swordman.

I really apreciate your attention and I’m sorry if I misspelled something but I haven’t practice English for a while.
Thank you!!

“No hay problema mi amigo”…
I like your idea of multiple soldiers fighting and yes you can do gore, but keep it under control. Too much will distract people from your modeling.

You just need to be able to achieve your goal. Multiple soldiers sound a lot for your first challenge. But if you have the time, you juste need to think of possible IRL problem that can delay you.

Thank you both for the advice, very useful considerations.

Roberto: I’ll keep it in mind. I also want the models to be the central point of attention and not the blood. So finally I thing I’ll do it quite light.

Scote: Yes, I know that’s sound too ambitious for a beginner hahahaha. I have some experience with “too ambitious” projects and the damned IRL things, I think the key is to create an evolutive workflow that allways let you to have something finished and if you have more time, you can use it for the render or ading more detail to the models. While I work on the sketches I also work on the workflow and the “how I do this?” things.

I think that tonight (GTM) I’ll start with the wip threath and udloading reference images and sketches.

Hi there:

After reading through the accompanying criteria, then deciding upon generating a bust, simply due to at this point, an in general weak character modelling aptitude, plus this is my first HCR Challenge, so my question is:

  • Other than an historical period piece, is it also possible for entry, to create something from real-life experience in the modern era?

The reason being, is that my idea will be conceived from previous service with the Australian Army, specifically as an LRV [Light Reconnaissance Vehicle] Driver/Signaller, operating an M-113 Armoured Personnel Carrier, when posted to a Cavalry Unit 30yrs ago as a young man.

In brief, the proposed scene will depict in 3/4 frontal view, a figure from the chest up, or “opened up” driver’s hatch position and surrounding parts of the vehicle, equipped with Racal Helmet, off the shelf store bought Moto-X goggles, facemask and cam’ed scrim or “Shemagh”…etc worn at the time, covering most of the face when training in the outback desert regions of Northern Australia.

Anyways hopefully this is acceptable for submission, thanks.

Cheers

Great!, thanks Roberto for me its more a confidence builder and “outside the comfort zone” thing, anyway I’ll upload a bunch of working sketches/references in the next day or two.

Cheers

Awesome! Wish I had time for this…maybe I’ll start gathering reference for later. Good luck all!
