I really enjoyed this challenge and it was great to see with a little bit of consistent work, a great piece could come out of it. I’ve always really loved Tron Legacy. The architectural and graphic style of that film is one I always go back to and study. This project really challenged me on learning modeling and lighting tools with-in a new software package. I used Cinema4D for 3D, and PS & AE for post effects and comping. I’m not entirely sure how long the project took me, but I will estimate 40 hrs., not including final rendering and test renders.

Done almost in Blender and Mudbox, Photoshop knocking heavy in the Post Processing, I took around 10 days to make this in my spare time, you can see a complete breakdown on my W.I.P Thread

I´ve never did a W.I.P thread of my works in a forum before, so this is likely the first time and also a new experience for me, i guess i would not have finished if not for the force you all gave me visiting my thread and keeping me motivated, so i can’t thank you all enough for this, really a amazing experience, i wanted to do this piece for a long time, and i found here the needed fuel to complete, so thanks & good luck to you all, and keep extruding!

I love Disney’s classics and Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite movies so I dediced to recreate that moment when the Cheshire Cat opens a door in a tree that leads Alice to the Queen of Heart’s reign. “OFF WITH HER HEAD!!!”

I used Maya, Zbrush and Mental Ray. And, photoshop for the final comp. I really enjoyed this comp and I hope to be able to repeat the experience soon :)!

This is my recreation of 221b Baker St, from the recent BBC remake of Sherlock Holmes.

I used Maya for modeling, layout and UV’s with Arnold for lighting and rendering. Texturing and final comp done in Photoshop.

If I had to put a time allocation on it, I’d say maybe 7 days in total over the last month, but my hours were very much all over the place!

Great topic for a challenge, and I look forward to the next one!

I had hoped to get more of the area around it done but I’m happy with how the Stargate itself turned out so far. This is definitely a project I’ll have in mind to revisit to finish later.

Disappointments aside, it’s been beneficial for me to find which parts of my flow need refining and it’s been great to be part of the community once more and watch as over artist’s creations have developed. Good luck to everyone in the voting process!

For me, the Dark Portal win that Hardcore Modeling Challenge. Epic scale modeling with the use of so many details not even seen in the final composition. That is what I call a real challenger for an HMC.
