HCR MINI-Challenge #44: Soldiers through the Ages -German WW2 Tank Commander

#1

I’ve decided to go with a rather odd soldier choice, a panzer tank commander. It will be a bust shot similar to the one below. Started having a play with some focal lengths as well. I’ll probably model the top of the tank, then work on a pose from that.

#2

Love the pose… It’s a bust but the cut is with a practicle base… a tank hatch

#3

Yeah interesting choice, keep up Soldier tank Sir. '-)

#4

Neat choice, and yes that pose works for me as well.

Cheers

#5

Just a small update of some progress I’ve done, once I’ve finished some small details that remain for the tank part, I’ll be starting on the bust.

Base mesh which I took into mudbox to do a small amount of sculpting to get a little bit of detail on some of the parts.

Bringing it back into maya, using vray’s proxy tool

Some painting in Mari

What it looks like so far.

#6

You will need some work on the lighting to integrate more your model. But Yah it’s a real good start

#7

Good progress!. I’m not totally convinced of the camo texture but you’ve just started :). Looking forward to see more.

#8

What do you mean integrate more the model?

The camo is about right, though I think I need to make the red a bit darker.

#9

The model is right, but he just need more work to be well integrate with that background. Maybe the Lighting or the materials are the issue.

But anyway you should focus on the modeling… Rendering should come last

#10

Oh, the background is just the hdri rendering in from the viewport, I just didn’t make it invisible for rendering. I’m not matching the lighting to it, I’l make a custom background for it at the end.

#11

Hi everyone,
i have one question:
is it possible to create an alien soldier in the second world war?

#12

Hi Roberto. I think you can do it, but you should ask that here.

#13

I’m sorry, thanks for reply.

#14

Havn’t done that much so just a small update of what I have done. Modeled and textured some hands, I will probably make them a bit dirtier later on since they look a bit pristine. Will probably start the coat soonish.

#15

Thanks and great update.

Like your modeling Technik.

#16

They look good :)!

#17

Good blocking… BUt remember to have time for Modelling  You do too much Tetxturing, you should end by that.

#18

looks quite nice so far man. The hands do look a bit plastic right now though. i think some nice color variations will help, maybe a bit of noise to break up the smooth look. I think some dirt and grime will help a lot too, keep it up
