HCR MINI-Challenge #43: Soldiers through the Ages - Gladiator Warrior

#1

Hello guys, I choose a gladiator warrior inspired in paints and the film “gladiator”, one of my favourite film in my childhood, these references gonna help me to start the design process. I wish you the best for all you guys.

Some info about the gladiator:
The word gladiator in Latin means swordsman, these combatants were made up of slaves and criminals given a chance to freedom, but in order for that freedom they are to fight to the death in an arena. Gladiators train everyday they are known for their ferocity, strength and skills. They are trained to kill with wide range of skills and arsenal.

Hi guys, thanks for you comment.
I’m working on character right now, little by little is taking a form haha.

So as you seen I started with a base mesh which was created on 3ds max, In this case I tried to achieve a good topology at the beginning, as you know later with rigging and the animation cause a lot of problem, especially in the skin process. And also I did some details of the body, and the head, I spend more time in the head because it is the body part that is going to see more in my character.
And of course a very basic texture that I made in Photoshop, adding a ambient occlusion map and a cavity map to give more realism (created on xnormal).

Note: the render is in real time, I used marmoset toolbag 2.

I hope you like it and any suggestion are welcome.
Cheers

Hello guys, here I’m again :D. I was working a bit on his skin and the eyes, in this step I added more skin variation, blood and dirt, about the eyes is in process yet, I’m trying to achieve the style used in video games, using the parallax map, by the way, it looks with a very good result.

Next comes the hair process, there are many ways to do this but I would like to know your opinion, what path do you recommend for hair guys?

Greetings!.

Looking good! Since you’re doing a realistic-looking character I’d suggest doing alpha’d planes for the hair to give it a layered look.
