HCR MINI-Challenge #43: Magic Door - Seven Holiday Doors - DIORAMA

#1

Back again!

When I heard of this new challenge about magic doors, I was instantly taken back to Tim Burton’s the Nightmare before Christmas. The scene where Jack finds the seven holiday doors in the woods. I remember really enjoying the concept of there being a hub of seven themed worlds, each with their own designed gateway hidden out in the woods.

I’m also really keen to have a crack at some of those Tim Burton swirly textures in my sculpting.

Hope for this to be yet another great modeling challenge!

Them textures…

Good luck, Everyone!

Hey Everyone!
I have been super busy with a lot of things in my personal life, but I have been working on it here and there when I can find the time. It’s looked like a mess for a while now, but I do have some snipets I can show you.
Sorry for the lack of updates!

A test render for the lighting, showing a few assets I’ve been sculpting up.

The door for Halloween Town:

I still have such a long way to go, but I’ll try my best to slap something together before the closing date.

Another update for y’all.
Been stuck in the asset creation stage mostly, still a complete mess but I’ve just been trying to fill out the scene.

Safe to say at this point, my optimism has run out, and I can’t see me being finished by the due date. I just couldn’t find the time with so many other things going on for me right now.
It’s been fun though, and again it’s given me the opportunity to refine my work flow and get a better grip on unfamiliar software. Hoping I have at least something worth showing by the due date.

The updates looks good.

the most important is you has win work flow and fun, collected experience and safety to target your concept. And personal works going to front.

#6

Hey man, never give up!
Dont do this with this challenge in mind, but do with practicing and to have a nice piece to put in portfolio in mind

I almost could not finish mine too, a job appear the day after i join this
But even if i wont finish in time, posting things in the forum gives me the extra fuel to finish it, also i learned a lot just from trying to match the deadline

Keep extruding!
Cheers

Thanks for your encouragement, Guys.
It’s been fun, and I would of liked to of gotten further, but at the same time I’m done with this damn scene…

Modeled in Zbrush and 3dsMax
Probably about 25 hrs in total. I think a third of that time was spent fighting with software and backtracking.

Disappointments aside, it’s been beneficial for me to find which parts of my flow need refining and it’s been great to be part of the community once more and watch as over artist’s creations have developed. Good luck to everyone in the voting process!
