HCR MINI-Challenge #43: Magic Door - Mage portal

Heya guys,

My magic door is going to be a mage portal from World of Warcraft. Going to try my luck with a composition of a little group of adventures going home through a mage portal after having layed waste to a dragon. Dragon lair + as much character work as I can make within the timeframe. I have been working since yesterday to get the layout and composition up as fast as possible so my idea becomes clear.

Posting a couple of concepts that drive my idea:

Mage portals - Will try to model some architecture to use in the portal vision.

The dragon - I picked a blue dragon from the wow-universe.

For characters I want to keep it simple. Been working on some fast model placeholders for a Druid Bear and Druid Treeform. Will also try to make a paladin and the mage. Concepts:

So here we go :slight_smile: I hope everyone is going to have fun with their projects, I sure plan to have fun with this.

Used most of yesterday to block out a fast lair, Zsphere the dragon and sculpt the shape to match the concept idea. My girlfriend did not like the tail and I decided to follow her wish for a chinese dragon inspired tail :smiley: I sculpted too much detail, realising that it would be better to get the pose for the idea down first. Here is the wip progression from yesterday.

So here is the pose I wanted for my scene, this is what I will be sculpting on from this point:

And so today I spent my time blocking out some fast models for the concept and design of the composition. A druid in treeform and druid bear.

For the Mage and paladin, so far using Bipeds for concept.

I am pretty happy with this concept, So now its modelling and sculpting all the way. More updates as soon as I got something done :slight_smile:

More details and some leafs soon I hope :slight_smile: might jump to the bear next, some perspective change is good to get a fresh view on the progress.

So I decided to go with a dwarf as the foreground character. I found a nice warrior armor-set and I am going to try to model that. Here is the ref and the sculpting done so far on the character

A little more sculpting and form, will retopo next and det a mesh I can work with.
