HCR MINI-Challenge #43: Magic Door - 221b Baker Street

#1

Hi all, I’ve been keen to get in on one of these challenges for a while so here I go! I will be modeling up the entrance to 221b Baker Street as seen in Sherlock Holmes.

Reference, research and artboards coming soon.

#2

I’ve decided to go with a modern take on 221B Baker St, as represented in the BBC series Sherlock. From what I understand, filming for 221B actually took place at 187 N Gower St - as seen in these reference images.

As well as the entrance to 221B, I’ll model the surrounding buildings (cafe) and street scene to complete my diorama. Time to block it out!

#3

Heres my first WIP - An initial blockout showing the door at the centre of the composition and surrounding environment.

#4

Happy New Year!

Quick Update - started modeling the entrance in detail.

#5

Worked on the iron railings, upper windows and the stonework around the entrance - starting on the cafe next to the entrance next.

#6

Tidied up a few things here, added some additional details I found in some new reference images, and worked on the cafe next to the main door.

Next steps:

  • Cables hanging next to the door
  • Wall light to the left of the door
  • More door details (knocking handle, keyhole/lock)
  • More work on the Cafe (Tabletop details like sauce bottles, salt & pepper)
  • Add some detail behind windows (curtains, boxes, etc)
  • Add some pavement detail

#7

Looks great :)!

#8

Thanks!

Long time between updates - but here’s where I’m up to.

#9

Great work thanks, love your detail flourish ‘Schnörkel’ raillings ect.
