HCR MINI-Challenge #19: 80's Cartoons Tribute FAQ
I have a query. If we’re making a character on a vehicle do we need to sculpt the details in the relaxed pose and later on pose it atop the vehicle. Or can we just pose the lower subdivision model first and sculpt the details afterwards. Are there any rules regarding this?
Hey, I want to model Frieza/Freezer from DBZ.
But I think there’s some sort of grey spot according to the time Frieza appeared on the series.
According to Wikipedia:
Frieza is introduced in chapter #247 Dark Clouds Swirl Over Planet Namek (暗雲うずまくナメック星 An’un Uzumaku Namekkusei?) first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on November 6, 1989.
That doesnt mean he appeared on the animated series before the 90’s and I read on this topic that non-animated characters arent allowed.
I’m not sure when he appeared on the animated series. Wikipedia says that on chapter 53, whenever that is.
Is it possible to use a character that had cartoons in multiple decades; say Popeye?
I’d rather like to get involved in this one, but I was born in '91! I don’t have any fond memories!
Textures are optional, and shouldn’t be taken into account when casting your votes. After all, it is a modeling challenge.

Roberto, you said we have to post the total length of time… you just wanting a rough approximation? Like “I worked on this off and on from January 10th until April 15th” or something more precise?
Forgive if this has been asked and posted before, but I get most of my reference from Corbis.com and similar sites. Just browsing and saving the watermarked previews they generate. Can I post these as reference or does it infringe on copyright laws?

If a team of two people are working on a diorama with two vehicles in it, can those vehicles also be considered for the best vehicle category or can they only be entered in one category?
Thanks

Although some of those would be rather ironic, as they had live action components to them.
I have a couple of questions about the final entry…
-
I made a couple of Quicktime turntable movies and uploaded them to Photobucket, but they got converted to .flv (Flash video) format, and the quality isn’t as good. Are FLVs acceptable for turntables? If not, any suggestions on where I can post a Quicktime movie? Unfortunately, I don’t have my own website.

Do we post our final entry in both our own WIP thread and the main Challenge thread, or do we just put a link to our WIP thread in the main thread?
Thanks!
Hello Roberto,
I’m not sure about where to post final entry, getting close to completing a challenge.
I’m a little nervous. I guess I should have asked these questions long ago.
But I am new at this, and I wanted to know how to submit my final Renders.
Do I just reply to the HCR thread and include my images or their are other ways to do that?
There is a thread here to post finals…Roberto should make it a sticky though, it’s getting lost.
Just a general question about these hardcore modeling challenges. Are we able to post updated work in the Past Challenges Archive forum? For example I have an older HCR challenge i was thinking of working on again and would like feedback on, or is it more appropriate to start a new thread in the WIPs forum?
Question for Roberto or any other Mod that may know. I’m reading the CGS Newsletter email when I get to the ‘Hot CGTalk Threads’. I’ve been monitoring it the last few times and I’ve noticed that there are always 3-5 threads in the HMC that have more views and more replies than most in the HOT section. Why don’t the HMC threads appear here as it would really boost traffic to the challenge?
Is there some metric I don’t know about that kicks them or are challenge threads just not included in this list? If thats the case could they possibly add a section that did include the challenge threads?
