Hard to say from your mail and pic but it looks like you only have one branch.

You will need to set up branches for all instances of motion, i.e. turn left -> walk straight ahead, same for turn right.

Have an idle pose too as it helps with setup.

SORRY! i can’t understand your say:

turn left -> walk straight ahead, same for turn right.

Have an idle pose too as it helps with setup.

I’m also having a heck of a time getting clip triggering to work. My joystick is connected and active, even makes the state checkmarks go on and off correctly, I have all my motion clips loaded and branched but there are no pulldown items under trigger list.

In general I find the manuals and help very sketchy. I’ve searched endlessly for tutorials but there seems to be a real dearth of learning materials, even with my platimum access.

So far learning MB has been incredibly slow and frustrating, more trial and error than anything. I only found out how to connect a relationship constraint to a trigger device only by sheer chance.

I would kill for a good How-To guide on setting up Triggering animation with the keyboard/joystick too.

Well…maybe not Kill.
But I’m willing to hurt someone real bad.

I found a working example on the clip art dvd that came with the install. By reverse engineering I was able to determine that they had added a trigger device (duh) and that by adding a name to trigger edit you then get to access the motion clips. Still can’t make it go, though.

you must press ctrl+a show all bones.and spance bar+right click to select all bones.
in the following.you alt+drag all bones to lists. all is ok.
but ,all have done, the clip can’t be active by keybord.

I think the missing piece of information we all need lies in the Relation constraint nodes.
The manual basically shows this:

For using the keyboard to control the rig. Drag and drop the keyboard icon from the assets window into the scene. Then select the keyboard from the devices in the Navigator panel. And make sure the LIVE option is checked.
Then set up the trigger by doing the following:

  1. create a trigger group
  2. select the source in the links panel and check “Activate”
  3. click “Add” in the Motion Clips tab and load an .fbx animation file
  4. With that motion clip seleted. Click “create” in the branch editor panel
  5. Go to the “trigger (Edit)” colum and give your branch a name
  6. go to the Keyboard tab and click the arrow in the keyboard button you want to apply the trigger to. Then select your branch name from the list.
  7. Go to the Type column and select “active”

Then the manual ends in it’s information.
At this point what you should have is the trigger set up so that pushing the keyboard key you set up makes the “State” check mark turn on when you press the key. But this still isn’t enough to make the rig move.
I think the last piece of the puzzle is making a relation constraint for the keyboard to control the rig. But I have no idea how to do that.

Can someone please, please, please, fill in the missing piece of the puzzle here?

i don’t think it is making a relation constraint . so that the keyboard can trigger the rigs.

because i have turn off all relation constraint in “navigator > constraints” . and test all function ,it can be trigger.yet.

who can tell us. thanks.

There is an example file for controlling an animated texture with the keyboard on the Alias users site.
A relation constraint is used so it can tell MB how to control the scene.
They drag and drop the material from the navigator into the constraint window to link it to the keyboard.

That’s all well and good. But animation doesn’t drag and drop in the same manner. You can’t drop a track into the constraint window and hook it up.
So you have to do something like select the animation and make a group. Then drag the group into the constraint window and link it to the keybord.
But I can’t figure out how to get the animation into a group. Only the rig itself.

If anyone finds a How-To guide for setting up the keyboard to an animation. Please let us know. I see this question asked a lot in various forums. And so far nobody is able to answer it.
