Hi guys,
i wanna buy a new system to work with Adobe Software and Maya.
Do you think, that Intel Xeon CPU is better or Intel I7?
Same about Nvidia Quaddro 4200 or Geforce980?
thanks

GeForce for sure, the 4200 is subpar, CPU most likely the i7 unless you need dual or plan on mostly rendering or simming and care nothing for budget (which by you options seems to be a factor).
what means “subpar”?
Yes, i would like to go DUAL, but it seems, that there is no dual-mainboard for I7.
There is no dual mainboard because i7 chipsets aren’t dual capable by design.
If you want multiple CPUs on a single mobo you need to go with Xeons.
With the 4200 being subpar I mean just that, it’s subpar, it’s worse than any other current card of even remotely similar price. It’s, basically, bad.
Are you aware of the various cases when multiple CPUs are advantageous vs higher clock and boost and all that? Or are you simply assuming multiple CPUs will be faster in all situations?
Bear in mind it’s pretty much only during rendering and some sims, and rare and far apart multithreaded operations, that having many slower cores will be faster than an i7 for your average Maya user.
The largest majority of people, budget considered, tend to be better served by an i7 with, possibly, a render mule on the side rather than a dual CPU box, at least when money is considered.
Getting two Xeons that can compete with a top of the line i7 in single threaded or even narrowly threaded tasks tends to be quite expensive, the cheaper ones won’t cut it, and no Xeon out there can get anywhere close to the single threaded performance of an overclocked i7k.
Which actual mainbaord would you prefer and I7, also the ram … schould i take 3200Mhz?
I’ve had good luck with both Asus and Gigabyte for Haswell i7s, haven’t tried anything for more recent sockets. And no, you don’t really need overpriced overclockers ram for much unless you OC and cool as a number fetish hobby. Buy good brand, reasonably priced ddr3 or 4 as required by the platform and that’s it.
I’ve come to like g-skill for value for money these days, but many brands are just as reputable, if at times a bit overpriced (e.g. Crucial).
