amazing texturing there! nice work
HARDCORE MODELING!: WETA WORKSHOP TRIBUTE: The Cave Troll
Oh I wish man, seems like a great challenge, but don’t have the time at the moment. Lord of anatomy hah I think you may be being a bit generous. Lord of the dance, hmm yes perhaps, perhaps…
Jeepster: thanks pal
LordMcGoat: I wish I had your eyes
Well, too bad (or maybe good for you) that you haven’t got the time.
Blocked some muscles, not quite happy yet and not yet start on his head, he has a weird look, hopefully capture that one at the end.
looking really good.
Does look more muscular than in the movie.
Maybe he should have been more robust in the movie cause he looked too jelly.
great work.
Jeepster: thanks man, how is kong going?
Nothingness: thanks for the feedback, you are completely right about that. The fact that I’m not good enough, I can’t just form fat without blocking some muscles, feels a bit weird. Right or wrong I kinda know where the muscles right now. I’ll probably intruduce some fat to shoulders, arms and legs after sculpting some deep details.
A little update, sculpted some face details, hopefully finish head this weekend. Harsh critiques are most welcomed!
The wrinkles might seem a little deeper than the cave troll cause I want to use the mask fully to texture.
Thanks.
Thanks PKT, glad you liked it!
I started to pose him and gave him more details. Still WIP.
If you think something is off with it, please shoot.
this render is a bit off, lot of detail now are in the dark areas…
but anyway, it looks cool, are you plan to polypaint/texture it? i read you want to calculate maps from the model, so come on
Thanks bzsolt, I’ll fix that :D. And yes, after looking at it for a while and fixing some possible errors, I’ll start generating maps for the cave troll.
Cheers~
Edit: typo
thanks Paul. Yeah, I wanted to try if it was working… now can’t back to the original for a while.
Here is an another update. I’m getting there. After that, I’m not sure what I want to do though, still have time.
Giving away free cookies only for crits!
That render is looking great. You might want to bend the fingers on the extended arm a little, just to give it a more dynamic pose. ![]()
dude that’s amazing!
i agree with d8D about the fingers posing, but yeah, this is really cool
Wow! Excellent work! The only small item I noticed is that I think the back of the head might bulge out a little more than some of the reference pics (where the back of the skull blends in more with the shoulders- as if the head goes right into the shoulders for lack of a neck)- see attached.
d8D: Many thanks for the advice
Jeepster: thanks pal
waterlilly: Thanks, hopefully fixed now.
Final version, done it quite a while ago. Took around 50 hours from zsphere to model + texture + render. Used Autodesk Maya and Zbrush.
Thanks for the lovely words and critiques.
The finals look great! I especially like the detailing you’ve done on the skin. Fantastic job!
Very good work.
I only have a few remarks:
- The hammer is way too glossy and takes away too much attraction from the model itself and the whole.
- I think the other creature shouldn’t really be there. (was it modeled during the challenge by any chance?) It also takes away attention to the main character which looks so much better.
But great entry
joecyriac: Thanks joe, glad you liked it,
LordMcGoat: Yee-ha! Thanks pal, means a lot to me.
Nothingness: Thanks pal, yeah, modeled the weta for the challenge but I think you are right, I’ll leave the bug out of this. Lowered the reflections for the hammer as well.
