HARDCORE MODELING!: QOTRM: Robot_Queen

#1

Hey everyone! This is my first modeling challenge, and I’m super excited for this opportunity. This first post is just to say hi, and get some of my reference up, and let everyone know the direction I am going with my entry.
Even though my reference is all over the board, I am pretty sure I want to model a robotic Queen that rules the Rocketmen. I have been looking at combining a female air force garb into a hard surface riveted look. I am trying to keep my references diverse, though I have started roughing out my orthographic, I’m hoping to have finished ortho’s and a rough block in of the character by next week sometime. I will post some of my sketches this weekend.

Sounds like an interesting idea!

looking forward to seeing more :wip:

Side note… You’ll want to try to get this moved from the members section into the HMC proper area.

Hey,
This first image is the original concept art I roughed up for the character, and the second is the orthographic sketches my friend did for me. The third is the finished ortho’s that I revised.

So I think I will keep the wings as a separate part, at least until I get the rest of the body done. I’m think I will start modeling tomorrow, and get as much done as possible. A friend in class today linked me to a few great video’s of the Dominance wars 4 modeling challenge winner. These video’s are incredible in my opinion, and while many of his techniques are a little advanced for my skill set, they are a wonderful reference…here are those links.http://slipgatecentral.livejournal.com/25838.html?mode=reply

Please comment with any advice or critique for me!

Cool concept. However like Mystic Dread already said, you are in the wrong forum. This is a subforum for completed entries. Please send a PM to Roberto and ask him to move your thread to the correct forum.

Haha, I was wondering why I couldn’t find my own thread, I’m such a noob. Thanks for the heads up guys. I just started modeling today, but I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to, its SO HOT!
Looking forward to modeling all day friday, Woot.

#6

Your sketches are awesome. I’m anxious to see the final model! =]

First modeling post…eeek.

So I dunno if I’m going about this the right way, but I kinda just dove into this headfirst, and then if I find problem spots I rework stuff in detail passes. Hopefully by this Friday I will have the basic shape of all the shapes, then start doing detail passes with smaller geometry and shapes.

If you see any problem areas, screen shot resolution tips, or basic design flaws, don’t hesitate to tell me, I would highly appreciate it!

hi sullendawn , nice progress so far. since it is ur design and ur interpretation i dont want to say anything in that but for me the lips and chin area looks odd!

#9

So far, I’m really liking this. Everything from the concept work to the current modeling is looking great.

#10

Looking pretty good. Keep going! The inner details in between the armor is going to be interesting

#11

pretty clean start … waiting for more …

#12

nice modeling, wait for more progress

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the comments, and I promise this post wont be lame.

So here are the basic renders I just took, but I have also been having some issues with modeling, placement, and aesthetics as well....so her are some wire frames that include some highlighted areas and blah blah blah...

With the face, the eyes are just not cutting it for me, way to plane....just chopped up spheres basically..any suggestions? The mouth is another area I'm not sure about....so for now I'm leaving it blank.

The holes in the leg are made for rivets or screws, but Im getting some strange pulling that I'm not sure how to deal with...should I make them separate pieces?

I really like the way the waist is turning out, but I could add more metal plating....

Personally I like the nose, but it could use some work, its hard to mix an organic shape into a metal part...

I LOVE COMMENTS. So don't hold back people, I trust you!

Hay,
Loving what you have so far. Can’t what to see what you end up with.
P.S. Is this a Robot or a suit?

#15

hey buddy!

Its a robot. I actually never thought about the suit thing…hhhhmmmm. Well if you have any ideas, or notice any problem areas, just shout em out. See you tonight!

#16

this is looking really good…personaly i think there should be some more rivets everywhere lol and plates comming down the side to give it a more robot feel which may be why ksharp is having a hard time interpreting exactly what it is the first time, also adding some lose wires or somthing in the joints might help this as well kind of depends how streamlined your want it to feel i guess, i really like how the wires down the side turned out tho. keep up the good work

#17

So I’m moving on to the rendering stage, but I have to turn in the project on friday…so I thought I would post what I’m turning in and all…If anyone has some ideas on how I should render it, GI, FG or what, just shout out!
