#44

hehe…lol…I agree…but that’s kinda hard when you have artists w/ such passion for their work, and the work of others.

#45

…and when there is so much blatant and cynical nepotism going on, it makes very existence of a voting thread a complete joke.

#46

As newwee here, i’m sure i’m not the most qualified to vote, even, not qualified at all, but here are my vote:

Best Modelling: Steven Stahlberg
Best Detail Model: Steven Stahlberg
Best Shading: Anish Mohan
Best Rendering: Anish Mohan
Most realistic Model: Steven Stahlberg
Best Overall Entry: Anish Mohan

Reasons: I think S.St.'s model is better than the others, sadly he didn’t or coudn’t make a suitable render. In the other hand, i like the final image of Anish, the light, the sadows getting a closer image to the Leonardo’s draw.

This is my modest opinion, don’t know to be taken into account. Sorry my English.

Well I’m going with Stahlberg’s entry…it just has better proportion and detail than the others. But I must say I thought the David entries as a whole were higher quality. Most likely due to the amount of reference material.

Best Modeling: Steven Stahlberg (best proportions)
Best Detail Model: Steven Stahlberg (great detail on face, arms)
Best Shading: Steven Stahlberg (yep)
Best Rendering: Steven Stahlberg (ditto)
Most Realistic Model: Steven Stahlberg (Are you reading these?)
Best Overall Entry: Steven Stahlberg (but we’ll get you next time Stahlberg!)

John Conelea 2nd best, lower part of the body not as accurate and proportionate as head and torso, IMHO.

Good attempts from everyone :applause:

I would like to thank all who participated in the third (oops!) Hardcore modeling challenge.
It has been a great experience, and we will have the next micro challenge up soon.

and check out this neat proposal:
PROPOSAL for FUTURE HCR CHALLENGE: 30 Models in 30 days
________________
Ok drumroll please, here are the winners!

Best Shading, Best Rendering: Best Shading

Artist: John Conelea!!!

WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING!: VitruvianMan: <<Full Body and Shading >> xyzjpc

Comments: I modeled this piece in a about a 25-30 hours. I modeled the base mesh in Softimage Xsi 5, and then brought it into Zbrush for high poly detailing. After creating a displacement map, I brought everything into Modo, and rendered it with GI and Micro poly displacement. I really enjoyed doing this Hardcore modeling challenge, and learned alot.

Final Entry:

And the Winner…

Best Modeling, Best Detail Model, Most Realistic Model, Best Overall Entry, Best Modeling , Best Shading, Best Overall Entry

Artist: Steven Stahlberg (Stahlberg )

WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING: VitruvianMan: Full Body & Shading - Stahlberg

Comments:
In this scene I used a fairly light environment color, almost white, other than that it’s the default settings you get when you click “Finalgatherpreview” in the quality presets.
Then, one single spotlight, in the traditional position up high off to one side. I’d say about 5 meters high, a meter or two to the side. (Usually nicest effect to shift the light off toward the side opposite of the camera, for this kind of ‘portrait’ photo.)
Switch on raytraced shadows, lower the intensity to 0.5, and - optional - switch on Mental Ray area light (for this I used default quality settings, but made sure not to make it a very huge area light, just about the size of the guys head). Very quick setup.

I thought it was the third hardcore modeling challenge?

 1. David
 2. Church
 3. Vitruvian Man

#59

A big thanks to Roberto for offering up his free time like this… respect to the other artists. and thanks to those who voted for me! I apologize I couldn’t find the extra time to put as much effort in as people did in the David thread.

This is a really cool award, especially for me, as I love to model probably more than anything else in 3d.

#60

Ha ha ha ha . . . Steven won. That’s a surprise.

Mastery work Steven. I really like the muscle definition in the legs. I think the legs are really nice. I also like the hair-hairshadows-face contrast.
Make more men!

I think the others did a job well done as well.

#61

:scream:Congratulations Stahlberg and also Thanks for participating and showing us step by step your work!..

#62

Congratulations Stahlberg! great model I like how he was staged - excellent
And well done John Conelea! :buttrock:taking something away from the powerhouse that is Stahlberg!
