Hardcore Modeling Challenge: Vitruvian Man: Vote!

#36

oDDity: I do not know Conelea and for that matter, any other of the contestants in this challenge but what you said about Conelea’s friends voting for him could easily be said for Stahlberg. (I have nothing against people voting for Stahlberg). I believe that wether Conelea, Stahlberg or any other contestants friends are giving them extra votes, the contestants will all leave this challenge with more experience and knowledge than before, even if you think this challenge has no real challenge to it… not everyone has the ability to create a great, detailed human model in just three weeks.

I hope I don’t sound to harsh or anything and I don’t intend to be but I have seen people say the same sort of things as you did in other votes and competitions (not in forums only but in everyday life) and the votes end with angry people and nothing ends happily.

They aren’t expressing thier artistic views. They’re expressing entirely nepotistic ones. They’re coming here with a single purpose of voting for you to be the winner in every category.
They don’t actually care which one is the best work, no doubt they didn’t even look at the others, and that’s an insult to the other contestants.
It wouldn’t matter if your’s was the worst model ever seen by human eyes, they’d still vote for it as winner in every category, because they know you.
Any neutral observer can see that it is not the best., while it’s competent work, it’s quite basic and generic anatomy, some of it not even physically accurate, and there is very little sense of character compared to stalhberg’s and mattoo’s.
I’m not saying you asked them to vote for you, but I’d certainly be embarrased by the fact that all my votes come from friends, and it brings the contest into disrepute.

Best Modeling: Steven Stahlberg
Best Detail Model: Steven Stahlberg
Best Shading: Steven Stahlberg
Best Rendering: Steven Stahlberg (yes, even if his really cool render doesn’t count)
Most Realistic Model: Steven Stahlberg
Best Overall Entry: Steven Stahlberg

I have fully read the opinions of oDDity, xyzjpc and ZaneV, and believe it or not I do fully agree with all of them. And I say let’s not make a big deal about it. It suffices to say your opinion ONCE.
Anything more is pointless imo, 'cause the contestant himself has anyway nothing to do with that (I once told a buddy he should rate my thread (and any threads) and he gave it 5 stars. That’s of course not what I wanted, but done is done.)
and if these people really vote without having a look at anything else, then they’ll also not notice your posts and still go on with their voting.
Anyway, there’s no right and wrong vote or we wouldn’t have to vote. each voters mix of sympathy, taste and know-how in the various fields relevant to this voting, returns a different result. of course people shouldn’t consider sympathy when voting, but then again they wouldn’t be people if they didn’t…
that’s my personal opinion and there’s nothing more I’ve to say about this.

oddity, im surprised that you would even go that far to judge people on how they vote. (I would think PROFESSIONALS would be a bit more mature than that) it doesn’t matter that we WENT to the same school. I LOVE Stahlberg’s work, but wasn’t impressed this time around. the others that i have seen in the thread didn’t seem to have what John’s model did. again this is just my opinion. And who are you to say John’s model or anyone elses for that matter isn’t the best. Let people vote how they want to, and stop beig so bitter.

Edit: doh, posted twice by accident!

#44

hehe…lol…I agree…but that’s kinda hard when you have artists w/ such passion for their work, and the work of others.

#45

…and when there is so much blatant and cynical nepotism going on, it makes very existence of a voting thread a complete joke.

#46

As newwee here, i’m sure i’m not the most qualified to vote, even, not qualified at all, but here are my vote:

Best Modelling: Steven Stahlberg
Best Detail Model: Steven Stahlberg
Best Shading: Anish Mohan
Best Rendering: Anish Mohan
Most realistic Model: Steven Stahlberg
Best Overall Entry: Anish Mohan

Reasons: I think S.St.'s model is better than the others, sadly he didn’t or coudn’t make a suitable render. In the other hand, i like the final image of Anish, the light, the sadows getting a closer image to the Leonardo’s draw.

This is my modest opinion, don’t know to be taken into account. Sorry my English.

Well I’m going with Stahlberg’s entry…it just has better proportion and detail than the others. But I must say I thought the David entries as a whole were higher quality. Most likely due to the amount of reference material.

Best Modeling: Steven Stahlberg (best proportions)
Best Detail Model: Steven Stahlberg (great detail on face, arms)
Best Shading: Steven Stahlberg (yep)
Best Rendering: Steven Stahlberg (ditto)
Most Realistic Model: Steven Stahlberg (Are you reading these?)
Best Overall Entry: Steven Stahlberg (but we’ll get you next time Stahlberg!)

John Conelea 2nd best, lower part of the body not as accurate and proportionate as head and torso, IMHO.

Good attempts from everyone :applause:

I will post the results On Sunday Night.
