I would like to thank all who participated in the third Hardcore modeling challenge.
It has been a great experience, and we will have the next micro challenge up soon.

THE HARDCORE MODELING CHALLENGE: Topic Suggestions

and check out this neat proposal:
PROPOSAL for FUTURE HCR CHALLENGE: 30 Models in 30 days
________________
Ok drumroll please, here are the winners!

Best Shading, Best Rendering: Best Shading

Artist: John Conelea!!!

WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING!: VitruvianMan: <<Full Body and Shading >> xyzjpc

Comments: I modeled this piece in a about a 25-30 hours. I modeled the base mesh in Softimage Xsi 5, and then brought it into Zbrush for high poly detailing. After creating a displacement map, I brought everything into Modo, and rendered it with GI and Micro poly displacement. I really enjoyed doing this Hardcore modeling challenge, and learned alot.

Final Entry:

And the Winner…

Best Modeling, Best Detail Model, Most Realistic Model, Best Overall Entry, Best Modeling , Best Shading, Best Overall Entry

Artist: Steven Stahlberg (Stahlberg )

WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING: VitruvianMan: Full Body & Shading - Stahlberg

Comments:
In this scene I used a fairly light environment color, almost white, other than that it’s the default settings you get when you click “Finalgatherpreview” in the quality presets.
Then, one single spotlight, in the traditional position up high off to one side. I’d say about 5 meters high, a meter or two to the side. (Usually nicest effect to shift the light off toward the side opposite of the camera, for this kind of ‘portrait’ photo.)
Switch on raytraced shadows, lower the intensity to 0.5, and - optional - switch on Mental Ray area light (for this I used default quality settings, but made sure not to make it a very huge area light, just about the size of the guys head). Very quick setup.

Artist: Matt (Mattoo )

WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING!: VitruvianMan: Full Body & Shading

Comments: Thanks Anish - blimey you’ve finished! Nice work on the hair.

Still in the middle of Hair sculpting here. My memory had inconveniently glossed over the finer workings of Hairspray which has tripped me up for a few days. Plus it’s the weekend when I’m unusually busy… and did I say it’s uncomfortably hot here? Yeah, bastad weather… I hate the heat… yeah… and my dog at my wacom pen…and… and…

So I’m certainly not going to get that sorely needed ZBrush pass done (there’s still loads of detail I’m missing - not to mention the fixes).

Here’s a quick OpenGL grab from Lightwave Modeler. I grabbed the two morphs and blended them together in Photoshop and quickly spazzed with the highlights for some quicky skin shader action for a pre-viz.

Artist: Robert Braddy (BobbyB )

WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING!: VitruvianMan: Full Body and Shading

Comments: I only ended up spending maybe 12 hours on the model. I gave Zbrush a bit of a go on this one. I havnt used it on a project before. I do believe i will use it again.

Hopefully next organic model round i can find some more time to have a good go at it.
Also Hopefull not another naked guy.

Binder, i saw the wip of course and i think this image ( http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=3731027&postcount=43 ) has been done after the deadline so we shouldn’t count with it. well … i guess.

but anyway it’s an awesome model
