PROPOSAL for FUTURE HCR CHALLENGE: 30 Models in 30 days
________________
Ok drumroll please, here are the winners!
Best Shading, Best Rendering: Best Shading
Artist: John Conelea!!!
WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING!: VitruvianMan: <<Full Body and Shading >> xyzjpc
Comments: I modeled this piece in a about a 25-30 hours. I modeled the base mesh in Softimage Xsi 5, and then brought it into Zbrush for high poly detailing. After creating a displacement map, I brought everything into Modo, and rendered it with GI and Micro poly displacement. I really enjoyed doing this Hardcore modeling challenge, and learned alot.
Final Entry:

And the Winner…

Best Modeling, Best Detail Model, Most Realistic Model, Best Overall Entry, Best Modeling , Best Shading, Best Overall Entry
Artist: Steven Stahlberg (Stahlberg )
WIP Thread: HARDCORE MODELING: VitruvianMan: Full Body & Shading - Stahlberg
Comments:
In this scene I used a fairly light environment color, almost white, other than that it’s the default settings you get when you click “Finalgatherpreview” in the quality presets.
Then, one single spotlight, in the traditional position up high off to one side. I’d say about 5 meters high, a meter or two to the side. (Usually nicest effect to shift the light off toward the side opposite of the camera, for this kind of ‘portrait’ photo.)
Switch on raytraced shadows, lower the intensity to 0.5, and - optional - switch on Mental Ray area light (for this I used default quality settings, but made sure not to make it a very huge area light, just about the size of the guys head). Very quick setup.
