HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon:Voltron

#103

well, I guess I can always render them both:D

here is an AO render other one that shows off the model better. Unfortunately I’ll be unable to texture it ontime for the challenge, so clay renders will have to do, good thing this is a modeling challenge, right?

#104

Awesome man! Now I want to go watch Voltron! Great work, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from you. q

#105

Oh man sweeeet! :buttrock: You’ve inspired me to complete my Ace McCloud. I bet you could apply some simple polygonal coloring to the parts right? But he looks awesome the way he is now. Great work!!

#106

Thx guys!
I think I’m almost done… just need to add the geo for the knee that was messing up. Then its time to render the images for final submission.

Here is a quick test render using Maya’s Physical sky. Didn’t tweak the values much at all, just lowered the horizon line. Everything else pretty much default.

Great job! Congrats on finishing him up!! Nice detail in the mouths, makes it seem very functional!

#108

Whoa…!!

Congrats man…

Great Work… wonderful piece for portfolio…

//cheers

#109

Looks incredible! Will you texture it? It would be a shame not to  This Voltron is awesome.

#110

Nice work! Grats on finishing it. Great entry!

#111

#114

Great modeling work!

I think I had one of these or something similar as a toy as a kid.

Cheers!

#115

Lookin’ great! Only two wingy thingies on the back looked weird to me, I did a quick google search, they are looking a bit thin, the edges should be rounder and have little bit more mass.

Great work, pal!

#116

Thanks for the comments guys!
menthol, do you mean the wings? I think you are right I’ll make them thicker

#117

so how’s Voltron going? Is he going to make it?

#118

yep, I was unable to texture it but I was able to render a turntable and will render the orthos sometime today or tomorrow. I think I can make it… I hope so.

#119

Great job, Snows!

I hear you about the texturing, I don’t have time to texture mine either!

#120

Nice model

#121

Like the camera work here, shows the scale very well without using any other props. Congrats and a great amount of patience/skill shown here

edit

How come you used Maya for rendering? Due to the rigging? Very clean and nice render all the same.

#122

Thx guys!

@samartin- I was telling a friend that when I make giant robots I like to place the camera down near the floor, I think it puts the viewer right in the scene and thus giving a great sense of scale. As far as rendering goes… I’m rendering at work in a dual quad core… a hell of a lot faster than my antique at home and at work we have Maya. This scene takes like 17 seconds to render with 2 FG bounces at half res (1275 x 1800).
