HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Skeletor

#21

minor update.
I added a rotting neck as a transition from the skull to the main body.
I plan to start work on his hood/cape now. The hood will identify him more as ‘Skeletor’ and he will be easier to recognise.

I like him so far…feels nice working on him

… comming along nicely! Great work and I hope you can finish it on time.

Good luck!

#23

Like your clothes seem very real even untextured.

It would be great. keep it up.

#24

I’m so curious about the final result with this. hehe It feels almost wild western-ish skeletor!

#25

Thanks guys
Rofideo, I am too kinda satisfied with the clothes and how they seem to have weight but they aren’t final yet. After i pose him they will be more wavy and i will add folds, wrinkles and whatever else is needed AND i hope they will have the same feeling even then.
Oberyn, I was getting that same cowboy look too at some point and I was like " why the hell is this happening?" After a while i figured the vertical lines of his clothes remind of a trench coat and the boots support that feeling too. Hopefully the addition of the cape and the curving of the garments during posing will break up that feeling since the wild west approach is not my intention.

But hell…even if it doesn’t i can care less.
I will change the name of my entry and say I was modeling Tex-Hex all this time

#26

Interesting where you are going with this. Kinda looks like biker-gang Skeletor and has a neat feel to it.

Cheers!

#27

Looking good I like what you are doing with his neck.

The sash that sits underneath his chest cross thingy (can’t think of a word for that) looks a bit odd to me personally kind of wondering why he would tuck that in.

But that’s just me.

Keep up the great work

Amanda

Thanks Felix

Amanda thanks, he tucks it in so i get more model complexity
Since Skeletor aside from spells uses a sword too, I figured it shouldn’t be right if he has garments swinging in front of him while in combat. Or at least this is my attempt to justify my approach on him…

Anyway, i did some work on his cape and hood. Still needs work of course, especially those tentacle like endings of the cape, but folds and stuff will be worked on after posing.

Now the real challenge… arms :hmm:

#29

Darth Skeletor…

Nice concept. Love it.

#30

Indeed, I was starting to think of Pinhead before I saw the hood. Really cool concept for skeletor.

#31

Looks more like a Darth Nihilus -:buttrock:

#32

I really like this Skeletor. I find the layer of clothing and accessories to be exquisite.

#33

haha thanks guys but oh man… talking about a multiple personalities character!!!
First he came out of the wild west,
then he became member of a biker gang,
then he was a sith lord
but not before he was pinhead :surprised
I never thought such a loose concept was even possible

BTW i so regret that i never played KOTOR before. I googled Darth Nihilus and those sith designs are simply awesome!!! I don’t think this game ever came out on playstation, right?
But maybe it is a good thing that i wasn’t aware of this, i would simply copy that dude down to the last thread

I am glad you guys like how this is going, thanks again

#34

if it wasn’t for this thread I wouldn’t even be inspired to make Darth Nihilus after this hmc challenge:applause:. KOTOR was great at it’s time. Before Fallout 3 came out…yeah didn’t release for ps

#35

Razeverius go crazy  i wish you enjoy every minute of modeling that dude!

I did some work on his arms the past days,i posted the wires too cause i think there can be improvements in the topology. If anyone can give 2-3 pointers it will be much appreciated
The forearms are placeholders as you can tell, i think high gloves with straps might look good on him.
And i did some color tests for when the time comes to texture him… I didn’t use anything more than basic blinn shaders.
I am having second thought about posing him. I think i will spend the remaining time once i am done with the geometry refining and adding details…I’ll be a good boy and stay true to the concept of a modeling challenge

#36

I actually have the answer to that:

they did plan on doing a sequel and started work on it, but seeing as they already had too small a budget (reason for most of the first movie taking place on Earth blech) and the movie pretty much bombed in the theaters, the project was scrapped - as a great many box-office bombs with sequel set-ups have been (super mario bros anyone?)

anyway apparently ideas from what would’ve become the sequel were reworked into the Van Damme movie “Cyborg”

quote:
"Cannon Films intended to create a sequel, which is indicated after the end credits when it is revealed that Skeletor in fact survives his fall. The idea was abandoned when Cannon wouldn’t pay for Mattel’s fees and the production used the already-made costumes and sets for the improvised action movie Cyborg. "

#37

Gatewave that is some nice piece of trivia there…I didn’t know that about Cyborg

The good news is that i have a complete entry and for the remaining 9 days i am free to redo bits and pieces on my own pace without sweat
Some folds here, some wrinkles there… stuff that i keep repeating mostly to myself in case i feel lazy:rolleyes:
There will be no texturing yet, i will do that and the final posing after the challenge is done. The remaining time will be used for modeling purposes only.

I am open for crits

#38

Well the forms look good and the silhouette looks good too. All it needs is some surface detail, but like you said that`s what you’ll be working on.

#39

Nice progress!
One thing that looks very weird is the gloves pulling all the way up over the armpits. It looks rather female to my eyes. Maybe its just perspective, but the arms, especially the forearms look a bit on the short side as well.

Cheers!

#40

oh it’s been awhile since i saw this :D, the gloves on side view looks kinda weird, reaching all the way up to the bicep, feels kinda uncomfy  but that’s just me…
