HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: She-Ra

#1

Hey everyone! A first for me and what an interesting challenge indeed!
I’m going to try make my version of He-Man’s twin sister, She-Ra.

I’m going to be using the likeness of the beautiful Charlize Theron, and try and incorporate her dazzling features into the character. The idea is not copy the actress but observe her broad and natural forms using them to define the character.

Will be posting my image reference study up very soon.

GOOD LUCK FELLOW 80ites!

Managed to find these handy images to get a feel of what I want to achieve.
To the basemesh!

#3

A quick zsphere block. Still have a LOOOONG way to go…

#4

Nice reference shots. Where did you find those? All I could find via Yahoo were some, well … not as nice.
Great choice to take Charlize as a character template. I am still contemplating who to use for my model, but was considering her as well.

Your ZSphere work looks good. How long did that take you?

Anyways, looking forward to more.

TheRazorsEdge: Thanks! It took me a long time to find these references! alot of googling and yahooing involved :). The zsphere mesh was a quickie. Took 20 minutes or so. Pushing out the forms is whats going to take alot of time. I take it you’re also modeling She-Ra?

rasmusW: Haha yeh I know what you mean. Thanks :).

Yeah, looking for references sure gobbles up a great deal of time. But in your case it certainly proved very worthwhile. I’ll keep those handy for my modeling as well.

And yep, I am also tackling She-Ra. Just uploaded my latest wip image. Since you are using Charlize as a reference already, that pretty much disqualified her for me for the sake of different looks. She wasnt really leading the pack anyways.

Can’t wait to see what you do with that Zsphere model.

Cheers!

#8

as I’m also doing She-Ra I’ll be following you, Good luck!

#9

Good luck to you.

Been setting the proportions of the base.
A quick WIP image.

#10

Good start on the sculpting. The proportions look fine to me.

#11

Good start on the proportions. Not that I want to talk into your workflow, but isn’t that mesh a bit dense for this state?

Are you going for the supermodel-look or are you going to make her a bit more “buxom”? Personally I hate the anorexic/boyish look displayed by the fashion industry models these days and will go for a more “healthy”, Frazetta/Valejo-type physique on my model.

Anyways, looking forward to more from you!

Cheers!

Hi!

I’m back finally. Still way behind but I’m planning to pick the pace up this week.
Working on the face right now so please ignore the crappy ears :D.
The previous image was of a denser level and not the base.

I plan to retopoligize once i’m done with the major features and proportions!

TheRazorsEdge: I know what you mean about the skinny look trend and I also do not believe in that approach. Going to be looking towards more stronger representation with Theron’s tall slender quality. Been watching your progress great stuff!

Guys, how do you place images in the reply instead of attachment on CGtalk?

#13

Some work on the body.

#14

Made some changes to the head and arms.

#15

You host them somewhere else, like photobucket or imageshack or something similar. Then in your post you link to it via the icon with the little mountain on it. Just type in the Url and hit ok.

A quick mat test. Also checking out how the basic forms of the armor are coming out.

RageOfAges: Thank you!

#17

Cool, I did a aeon flux model a while back and Its on my cgs folio, if you want any screengrabs just holler. Good progress.

#18

Thanks for the positivity on the progress Airflow!
I badly need it…

I’ve still got alot of work ahead of me. Working out the costume at the moment.
Here’s an update.

#19

Its looking better. Nice progress.

I would suggest the skirt would have problem if the lower part of the armor is riggid. Maybe you can make it a little bit shorter as not to get in contact with her thigh.

I do like your work, keep it up.

#20

Very nice progress!

I’d suggest however to either change the material of the upper body armor, or to connect it to the belt part. If you intend to make that metal, then that thing is so pointy, she’s gonna disembowel herself just bending forward and you might have trouble posing her. I had a similar thing in my design, which I completely overlooked. lol

Cheers and keep the updates coming!
