Nice final camera view. Looking action packed.

This shot is much better, and the environment is really cool too. It’s been a while since I’ve used Maya, but for a metal shader you’ll definitely want to use a blinn shader, or an anisotropic shader if you want a brushed metal look. You’ll want to turn up the reflection quite a bit. You’ll also want to use very low value for color. In other words, if your color is set to white, you should slide it down to near black. The colors you you will be getting out of the sword should come more from specularity and reflection. Hope that helped and great job to date!

OK this is what sucks in Philippines. It blacks out at unexpected times! So I was render when it blacked out. and as soon as i opened my scene bam! this popped out!

Can anyone help me about this? coz I dont wanna repeat the whole background and lightings! god! a whole day put into waste! hope someone can help! I still have a back up but his pose was the old one and no background. It may seem easy for you guys to repeat the thing but i’m still learning and not that fast so yeah it’s a big upset for me:banghead:

#67

forgive my manners i forgot to mention. thanks to Airflow and Rage. its depressing though that I think I’ll have to repeat the whole thing. Thanks for the tip about the sword btw.

#68

If it happened during a power failure then check your temp folder and see if maya made a backup if not you might be out of luck.

Once you open the file and you get past the error message, what happens then? Does the scene opens with missing assets? does it open at all?

Also get used to working incrementally, meaning, once you do something that you would hate to redo save the file as an increment, for example my Voltron Model, my last increment is : Voltron_v006.mb, when I fix the knee I’ll save another increment which will be Voltron_v007.mb and so on. At least if another power failure occures the damage won’t be so great. Sometimes saving you can rescue files if they are saved in Maya ascii (.ma) since you can open the file in a text editor and chage the scene from there.

#69

wow thanks Snows! I found it! man o man did i feel so desperate last night typing in the whole error message in google but nothing seemed to come out properly. My brother advised me to do the increments too last night. Btw, one thing i noticed, is that even though colors are assigned on the whole scene it only shows during rendering, how come?

#70

wow, cool! you got lucky, when Maya crashes it usually saves a file but I wasn’t sure if it did during a power failure.

Don’t worry much about the warning messages… most of the time they are just that, a warning, nothing more. Sometimes you make node connections and even tho you know what you are doing maya thinks it’s wrong. In your particular instance it seems like there is something missing that draws the node’s icon… what? I have no clue, I’ve never seen that warning before. Now, error messages are more important and they need to be looked at.

#71

u were very lucky after maya crushes and able to revive u scene
but is looking good

#72

@ Snows - whew, i was so glad when i found the file this morning, over excited to see if i could recover the file i had to delay at least 5 mins before going to school  and it did work so it was a real joy for me on the way. hhmm yeah, makes alota warnings when connecting them nodes around. and for the problem well i got it fixed, so i guess i should be getting on with this now, again thanks alot:beer: its like u gave me a birthday gift because today is when i age lol

@theKid123 - yeah so lucky, i was nervous and excited when i was gonna check around if I could still recover them files, thankfully i did so school was really great for me sicne i had a great morning

#73

ok I had abit of reaarangements of some buildings since I thought I lost my files I decided to make a more futuristic like city, hope it looks ok, them buildings look like some tall jellies  it’s justa simple maya software render so it wouldn’t take me a minute to wait :stuck_out_tongue:

#74

ok so i guess this’l be uhh what should i call it my final wip update? since my last post here will be the final shot, so uhh just some questions since i’m new here:

  1. should I show the wireframe of the whole scene or just the main character? should it be a wireframe render or can a screenshot of maya do?

  2. for the ortho, should it be the whole scene or just the main character again?

now, i might, might add a few more stuffs, you know, city lights, traffic lights and what else could there be? as for that square white thing thats actualyl some paper flying around, you know, like a cowboy scene and a tumbleweed comes along? I’ll be editing the lighting in photoshop since it doesn’t kinda give me the semi-sunset like effect. so any suggestions before I do the last scene tomorrow, since I’ll start render passes tomorrow :D, don’t i sound over excited and immature bout this whole thing? Sorry:blush:

all i can say is, i learned alot here in this challenge and it was fun, getting comments not just from my brother and his other artist friends but also from people who do this for a living already  and yes i won’t be lazy in drawing or 3d anymore, i am thinkin of joing the 2d forum too

What you need to do is wait for Roberto to put up the “Call for entries” thread. Don’t worry you can’t miss it. All of the instructions for what you need will be in there.

Now you can use the time you have left to improve your textures, add effects, whatever you can think of.

Great job finishing your first HMC razeverius. I didn’t finish till my 3rd or 4th attempt, I can’t remember.

#76

Cool man, I’m happy that you were able to recover your scene which btw is looking cool. I think that you can frame it better tho, here is a VERY quick Photoshop edit, I hope that you don’t mind but it was the best way to explain what I mean. I cropped the image to be in an HD aspect ratio, added a screen layer to soften it, added a bit of noise and a slight vignette, I also added a clouds background that matches your lighting. Also make sure that your buildings windows are not transparent otherwise you can see the hollow building inside.

#77

@Wyatt - oohh thanks about the info, yeahh now onto the think im mostly blank on. texturing :scream:. Thanks! I hope i improve on further HMC’s. Looking forward to that next topic suggestions :bounce:

@Snows- WOW! you just captured my imagination! the clouds gloomy look. Though I was going to use photoshop to create them since I havn’t found some cloud lighting that has the Lord of the Rings like aura.I am planning to add a few smoke around and i was planning on a kinda zoom effect. dang it’s like my imagination was taken out and pasted on the forum  thanks for the suggestions and yeah the help about my file:beer:

#78

The clouds you can find here: a great resource

#79

wow thanks! aha buh now i feel like i’ll just be copy pasting what you did:argh: but then again it saves time for me instead of making it in photoshop since i’ve only been reviewing so little for our exams in school lol. Thanks a bunch

#80

Oh wow, thanks for the link Snows! Great texture resource.

#81

uhh guys question…if it’l be a 1600x1200 size is it still advisable to do those render passes? because that’s what I was gonna try to do and just rendering the robots passes is like taking forever so I stopped it. i still have the city pass, ambient occlusion n depth field Or should I just render the whole thing out? thanks

#82

Well, that’s what you have to decide. If you are done with your entry and rendering is all that’s left then you have plenty of time. Start cranking out the high resolution stuff. I’ve had a render take longer than a day before. That’s when you set it over night and let it cook all day while your at work.

#83

whew looks like the electricity bill is going for a spin then  batch render will take more then 24/7 i guess …so might as well render the passes 1 by 1…thanks for the advise…
