MODEL 1 : Street Light (WIP)

Time: 2.5 hours

This is what’s coming along so far! it’s getting close

#3

Nearly done but not sure how is it looking? any ideas? things you like don’t like?

Time: 4hrs 5min
Program: Maya 7

#4

very ornate looking. I think the model in general is good, but you need to watch out for faceting in some areas because that has the tendency of destroying the illusion of reality.

Also, you may want to experiment a bit with Mental Ray and enable Final Gather as well as Global Illumination. It might not exactly be modeling per se, but it will make what you have even look more impressive.

One last thing, select your camera or viewport that you’re rendering from hit Cntrl-A and scroll down to the Environment Tab and change the color so something that’s not so dark.

#5

yeah when i get the final shots up i’m gonna fix the faceting and do a little bit more with the renders. I’ll give those tips a shot! Thanks for the help!

Ok here Is the final Model of the Street Light! Also Since this is my WIP thread Do i create a New thread For the final or becaues of how this is named is this supposed to be the Final Renders thread for the entry?

Model 1
: Street Light

Time: 5 hrs 5 min Modeling
2hr Rendering
Program: Maya 7

I’m really happy with how this turned out! It was difficult to figure out how to make it because there weren’t any good pics and most of them were 300px or smaller, my eyes hurt from squinching!

Model 2 : Tac WIP

Time: 58 Min
Program: Maya 7

So since i have an entire day i’m going to take a good long time to really add detail to this. This is whats come along thus far.

And The finel Model!!!

Time: 5hr 25min

nice work, keep it coming!
the final gather really kicks it up a notch.

#9

Model 3: LightSaber Darth Maul

Time: 5hrs 25min Modeling
1hr 30min For rendering
Program: Maya 7

This took alot longer then i thought. I wanted to make this out of nurds and curves and so this was a bit of a challenge for me because i’m not skilled or efficient with modeling like that.
The whole body of the saber are nurbs and curves but most of the buttons are polygons. so is the end with the jewl embeded. I used pictures of the force FX model and .45 scale replica.

Model 4: Dagger (WIP)
Time: 4hrs 40min

I ended up having to make this twice! I deleted history and ended up needing to get back to the point before i deleted history kinda sucked but oh well if it wasn't for that i wouldn't have found out a few errors in the model! So This challenge has already been helpful and filled with learning for me! Oh and this is just the sheeth to the dagger! which will look just as awesome!

And After some more time....

I’ve now almost remade this entire sword again. I really didn’t like what it was looking like and if i had more time maybe i would change a few other things but i think for the most part this is going to stay the same other then the top part i’m going to redue that

Ok and here is the practically finished model other then some minor tweaking!

#11

great work, I like your style, I’m looking forward to more!

#12

Model 5: Eel

Time : 2h 40 min
Program: Maya, Zbrush

It was kinda hard to see exactly how the body looked like because i was unable to find reference picks that had the full body in them and weren’t obscured by something so if the body is wrong let me know.

#13

good work with the eel. Dont they have gills though? I could be wrong. Keep them coming!

#14

Model 6: Fire Hydrant

Time: 2h 10 Min
Program: Maya 7

This was a fun piece to do and went very well with the modeling process. I was amazed at how many variations in different fire hydrants there were on the net so it will be cool to see who else will model one and see what one they do. I took into thought when modeling just incase the ends and top wanted to blow off or explode it would alow me too so i made them seperate objects! Hope you like it! If there are anything wrong with it or that bugs you let me know! thanks for checking my models out!

#15

Model 7: Scimitar

Time: 3hr 50min
Program: Maya 7.0

Once i saw a picture that had this blade i really wanted to make it. So i did as you can see. I found it difficult to deside how i wanted to go about making the blade and while i like the blade it’s not the exact duplicate that i was hopeing to make. I decided to add a flower design and make it look as if it were made from metal and put it in the middle of the scabard hope you can see the detail. But Please critique! I really like this blade and i think i might down the line add some cool particle effects for a “magic” sword!

#16

Model 8: VenusFly Trap

Time: 2h 40min
Program: Maya 7.0

There were tons of pics on the internet but the species varied to much that finding the right pics for the same species was rather hard. I’m really happy with how this turned out! i thought this would be a very very easy model when i started but turned out to be difficult but was very managable! I added a trap that was still growing that is laying on the ground. I made one specifically different to give it another look and also tried a different modeling flow on it. See if you can tell which one it is i’m sure you can it’s noticable!

#17

very very nice work yencaray… it all really looks great, especially the dagger and the fire hydrant…

#18

Model 9: Screw Driver

Time: 40 min
Program: Maya 7.0

#19

Model 10: Coffee Mug

Time: 1hr 10min
Program: Maya 7.0

I decided to do something more then just a mug you’d see sitting in your cabinet mainly cause thats boring and to easy. this was the most complex model (if you can call it that) that i could find of a coffee mug! if you have a better one pm me! C&C are welcome! Thanks for looking!

#20

Model 11: Hammer

Time: 2hrs
Program: Maya 7.0

This was more of a challenge then i thought. Getting the very slight curves in there right took alot of time tweaking them. I also ran into this problem and if anyone can help please do! I added the text that was engraved into the handle and when i did it i got weird facing problems and i’m not sure how to fix it exactly. Or havn’t ran into a problem this bad and not been able to somehow manage it. No matter what i change it looks the same.
see here.

If someone could point me in the direction i need to take to get ride of the problem while keeping the engaved text. Usually i know you would use a texture or displacement map but i wanted to model it. Thanks everyone!
