Espressive face, should be fun mugging for the camera.
HARDCORE MODELING!: 15 Expressions ONE Model: Self-Portrait
Hehehe, Swizzle. Nevermind, I won’t say it. Instead I’ll just post this, I’m sure you remember it from the battle field.

Thanks for the high rez version BTW.
I’ve got my eyes on you. :surprised
I should have some good reference pictures taken soon. I’ve enlisted the help of my brother and we’re going to spend some time taking bunches of reference pictures of my head. Then it’s on to some rough sculpts.
uhh! dareing, doing a self portrait… but very cool.
gonna leave an eye here.
good luck.

Got a bit of work done today. This is about three hours’ work:

And here are some of the reference photos (I really oughta shave…):

Great likeness so far Swizz.
Forehead is looking like a block, just needs to be rounded a bit.
Got a little more work done on this thing. It still only sorta looks like me, so I have a lot of work yet. I’m going to be completely sculpting the ears since poly modeling them was a pain in the rear and just not turning out how I wanted. I still have to make it asymmetrical.

Thanks, JMART!
Here’s a little update. It’s starting to look enough like me that I get a little weirded out when I’m working on it. :argh:

Thankya!

Doing a self-portrait in 3D is a weird challenge. I’ve done plenty of self-portraits that were just drawings, but seeing a 3D image of myself that I’m creating is a very strange experience. It’s making me view computer graphics a little differently now, though it’d be difficult to describe how.
japetus:
Ffft, yeah, if my connection decides to work for more than five minutes.
shin4:
Thanks
I think I’ve been looking too hard at pictures of myself and I need to ratchet some details like the wrinkles around my eyes back a bit. I’m starting to look tired.
I should be starting the actual expressions within the next few days. I’ve been helping a friend do a lot of really hard work around their house, putting up fence posts, moving tons (literally) of dirt, concrete and lumber, so I haven’t had much chance to work on this.

hey xavier!
very nice work. you really look like yourself. hahahah
one small crit, though. i think the crease going from the above the nostril and down to the mouth, is too “straight” (in lack of a better word). think it should have a little more gravity towards the mouth. think the corner of your mouth, should also have a bit more weight…
-man, you really gotta be careful giving crits for a piece like this. gotta be careful not to make it sound mean.
looking forward to see some great expressions.

Really great sculpt and likeness.
You will have a lot of fun doing the expressions.
Looking good already.
Clean topology too!
Only crit it that there is something wrong with the eye. It kind of doesn’t look like a sphere. Also the shape from the outer part of the eye is not so correct. Especially the top arc.
Then you might try and measure some parts of the face to get the feeling of the scale in your scene. I think the sphere of the eye is too big. In theory, it should be around 1 inch.
But it’s not exact science right.
cheers and keep it up
Looking great so far!
