Very good work, not much to crit here !
Happiness Is A Blue Bird, Jose Manuel Oli (2D)
I don’t mean to nitpick with my comments, I just am quite familiar with this topic and thought I’d point out my thoughts. I understand that it isn’t supposed to be a snapshot of a character from history but I still think that the little details help you in identifying with it. I’m not trying to put down your piece (I mean it’s a great piece!) I’m just trying to point out some thing you might not have realized from your research.
About The way he is holding the weapon, you are seeing a scene in the time, this does not mean that hi takes the weapon of that way all the time and it does not mean that he is left-handed too
Hi has been stopped to watch you.
-I say he is left handed not only because he is holding the musket in his left hand but because the lock is on the opposite side of a right handed gun. (also, stick that flint in there)
The butt is short and the weapon is very long. It is an old French gun.It does not seem heavy.
-I think that is what throws it off a little for me, for the length of the barrel, I would think it would be resting in the dirt the way he is holding it. Well I’m not going to argue with you about the size of the gun, it still seems short to me but that’s your choice and I don’t think 9 out of 10 people would give it a second thought.
Anyway…again, great piece.
Thanks to all for the new replies:)
[b]Aedilhum, your point of view about this kind of things is interesting to me, of course. Thanks ![]()

It’s a great painting! Hope I’ll gather enough experience to create paintings like that one in the future…
oh my gosh!! I’m blown away by this work. The lighting is great and the foliage is awesome. Textures like the many others who commented is great! By the way, did u throw in texture to create some grainy effect for the picture? I see u have that in other works too. Just wondering how’s it’s done. Tried doing in the past but failed.
I really thought the foliages came from some real pictures. May I know what size are you working on for this piece?
I’m glad I viewed this thread, learnt a lot from you. Hope to see more stuff in future.
Awesome work
Thanks again
Shuwan, this it is a small tutorial about the grain in my paintings:
-1 You make a layer with the gray color RGB 128
-2 Add noise ( 400%)
-3 Brush strokes filter (apply 3 strokes filter spatter)
-4 Blur filter
-5 turn the layer in overlay layer. Opacity 3, 4%… or more
You can see the original size of the painting, in my Web, or in the first page in the hi resolution link.
It’s quite hard to compliment an artist, when on a personal style level you might not be overly keen on their concept… Your technical skills are finely tuned and I like many, look forward to even greater things from you in the future.
Excellent work.
Respectfully.
Me alegra ver que hay gente por aqui con el mejor de los niveles! En serio, mi mas sincera enorabuena, es increible.
As for english soz ppl since I am also from spain i couldnt help it hehe
I am truely am amazed for the detail in the face- even in 3d this would be a hell lot of work to accomplish. Thanks for the high rez pic, I think I’m going to stare at it for some time lol
Also thanks for being open about your work and techniques, we the mortals salute u! hehe
Im not big in photoshop, I work on maya, and this gives me a different perspective - I think this piece diserves more than 5 stars! :applause:
icic…i tried putting noise n turned it monochrome. but never thought about the spatter part. Will definitely try it.
i visited your site n i must say, your techniques are really really good. The works are nice.
congratulation for the high rating. It’s well deserved.
Trower, Fabrice, Grc… thanks for the replies:)

Very very nice!! great colors, very good lightning, especially on the tree!!

that’s some awesome work there! brilliant stuff, the way the background is slightly hazier than the character makes it look kinda dreamy-esque… meh, i dunno, anyway, great work!!
I’m completely blown away!!! Honestly I really want to know how you got to this end result!!!
Ridiculously detailed, it’s stunning work! ![]()
I haven’t seen anything like this ion a long time…:surprised…or ever…
Don’t take this the wrong way, but did you use photographs or something like that, uhm, and how?
