Happiness Is A Blue Bird, Jose Manuel Oli (2D)

Well…I did not say that it would be easy, of course  That is a way to make a good base, you must paint and give the form with other brushes.
Looks good indeed.you must play with the colors and the form, You know… Painting and photo are different things.
By the way…this looks like a tutorial thread

Man, you are so far one of my favorite 2D artists! Your work simply ROCKS!

Hi Jose!

I have no idea why this image did not hit the first page!
Awesome work (as always) and congratulations on the Exposé award, too.:applause:

Do you use any visual reference for the clothes materials?
The leather on his coat is impressive, and in many of your works the clothes are so well represented that you can almost feel their texture.

Hi Zeoyn, and thanks
hehehe…what I can say?I would like to see it in front page too :stuck_out_tongue:
anyway 5 reply pages it is great for me…really thanks to all

+Right, the clothes, I looked for documentation about the “seam models” (sorry, I do not know the english word ) of this kind of clothes. You can see the seams of the back, very typical of those old dress coats.

Excellent work. I love the demonic part of it. I feel something negative coming out of the person. Excellent skills.

Very impressive.
I loved the color set and lightning.
You should post some tutorials someday, you have a nice technique.

Congratulations!

Very nice painting! The background is pretty incredible. And I like the colors.

A few things about the guy bother me though. For some reason the head doesn’t seem to be attached to the body, it looks like the head is just placed behind the face covering rather than the cloth being formed around the structure of the face. I would try moving the head and face covering, but not the cloth behind his head up and a little to the right.

Also a few things about the musket, you should put a flint in the hammer so you know he’s been using the gun. Also the musket seams a bit small for him, If you look at the length of his arm, I can’t see him holding it up to his shoulder to fire, the butt is far too short. The way he is holding it is a bit unnatural if you have ever held a musket. I don’t have one with my right now to check it out but I would think holding it forward a little bit would keep it weighted a little better so it isn’t so hard to hold it at that much of an angle.

The cocked hat is shaped a little wierd as well but those things are hard to get right without exact reference.
Also for realism and authenicity sake it might be cool to add a hunting pouch and powder horn, since he is left handed it would be on his left side, some of those powder horns are pretty cool looking and the white horn could add a spot of light in the dark corner.

I don’t expect you to make all these changes now that it’s done but I thought I’d point them just in case. To make a great painting even better.

Congrats!

as sharp as a razor!

#78

Nice! I’ll be damned if this is not Robert de Niro :p.

#79

Djampa- Thanks, nowadays I’m working in a making of.

Aedilhum-
about the head, sorry I see it in a correct position, attached with the body.
Also the musket seams a bit small for him, If you look at the length of his arm, I can’t see him holding it up to his shoulder to fire, the butt is far too short
The butt is short and the weapon is very long. It is an old French gun.It does not seem heavy.About The way he is holding the weapon, you are seeing a scene in the time, this does not mean that hi takes the weapon of that way all the time and it does not mean that he is left-handed too  Hi has been stopped to watch you.
About the shapes of the hat, I have seen documentation of this kind of hats (and clothes, the typical clothes of French Highwayman ) but I made my own design.
About details like the powder I must say that he is not an authentic “real” hunter… it is an allegory , anyway he has great pockets

 Eek, impressive work on light, and on the face. He looks so real. His sight is more powerful than his rifle !
